7th? Precisely why there should be no rankings until October.

I think the coaches see a team that can play really terribly and still win as a 'good' team. I think they are right. Until we play someone with a real resume (ala Florida, Alabama) and win.

As long as we don't lose we'll get the benefit of the doubt from pollsters. If we lose the big game(s) badly then we will feel the wrath of god when the next poll comes out...

Perhaps, but since reality tells us that the polls are in place now, I'll take being ranked in them as opposed to not being ranked in them.

I think we were ranked above Florida when we played them last year at 6th in AP. Shows you how much those rankings were worth

This has been an incredibly slow start to college football.. EVERYONE looks sloppy.
I think it's more of the fact that due to all the changes in CFB over the last few years, the creampuffs are no longer creampuffs. Games are competitive that use to be blowouts.

Looking at these polls, I think its fair, eventhough some of the first place votes in both polls are ridiculous.

1) Bama has done nothing to merit any first place votes. They struggled for an entire half against FIU.

2) USC won, yes, but this isn't a great tOSU team, and they struggled to win.

3) UF is obviously #1. They have played weak competition, but Troy was still a decent team last year and nearly beat LSU, so destroying them means something.

4) UT is solid, but has played absolutely no one and were only up 13-10 at half-time against Wyoming!

5) Ole Miss' win against Memphis is looking pretty bad as MTSU handled them.

6) Cal has been good, but please realize who they played. They played Maryland at home. The same Maryland team that had to make a massive comeback and go to OT to beat an FCS team. They also played EWU (FCS team) meaning absolutely nothing.

7) BYU beat a good OU team who lost their QB and TE for most of the game. They struggled early against Tulane, but turned it on. again, this is Tulane.

8)Boise beat an overrated Oregon team that only beat Purdue by 2 at home, and then beat Miami(OH) who lost just as bad to Kentucky the week before and hasn't scored a point all year, so please don't make them out to be some juggernaut.

Now, LSU has played poorly compared to what people expected, but we've won by 8+ in both games. We beat an improving UW team at UW with a brand new Defensive staff and then beat Vandy by 14 in horrible field and playing conditions. Pretty? No, but outside of UF, I don't see a team that has been more impressive consistently. Unless you assume pre-season rankings are legit.

I am saying that LSU has done fine. Vandy's defense is their strength, and we still put up 23 points on them and this was with Les refusing to go for it on 4th and short twice inside the 5. We do that, and it is easily 31-9.

The Washington game was the teams first under a new defensive staff, so despite talent, we were going to have some growing pains. UW showed this week that their offense was legit, and Locker is a beast.

7th in the coaches 9th in the ap
i guess the people on this board that say we shouldn't be a top 10 team
are probably a lot smarter than college coaches that do this for a living
all i have to say is isn't it great to be a TIGER fan

I think there are teams right now that have shown that they are playing at a higher level than we are to this point.

I'm happy with a top 10 spot at this time. The real test will come in Oct. If we win we will be top 5 or better.

how the hell does USC get 3 first place votes??? If we almost lost to a team who only beat Navy by 4 points...WOW! We would prolly drop out of the rankings even if we won the damn game. REDICULOUS!!!

Noway does LSU deserve to be ranked in the top 10. Those polls are a joke. Realistically, LSU should be somewhere in the 15-20 range.

If you went to OSU at night and won, yeah, you probably would drop all the way out of the top 25.

Ok, 7th in the Coaches Poll...Kinda hard to believe that watching our play...but, maybe we are spoiled after seeing some of our past teams dominate some games.

While our play has not been impressive, I would like our chances against any of the teams remaining in the Top 25 ranked below us.

I mean, really, who thinks any of those teams would kick our butt? Any of them could beat us, but I think the chances are we could take any of them.

So, in my mind 7th is probably about right.
