So anyone went to the Taste of Tiger Tailgating? Favorites? Thoughts?

I am kind of wondering what it has morphed into. Years past, it used to be just food. The Army & blood bank were there tonight.

Thought the Denicola place had some nice stuff. The fleur de lis tiger cake was pretty cool at that cake booth.

Also, what was up with the two Couyon's? And how much do yall think Schlitz & Giggles pays those girls to walk around dressed like that?

I hadn't been since the first or second year that they had the event.
While the Recruiting Bash seems to get better and better each year, I was very disappointed in the T of TT.
Vendors giving out table spoon sized samples of their products is just a waste of my time. The center stage was poorly placed.
The only highlight of the event was the strongman competition in the back of the venue.

we went as friends of some vendors.....they gave us vendor bracelets......

wife actually said when we left, that she would have been disappointed if we had planned the evening in advance (ie: paying for a ticket, getting a babysitter, etc).

wife, son, and i went.....and i agree with previous poster, stage in middle of bldg was poorly placed - it definately needed to be against a wall....

it was a little too chaotic for us....taste of baton rouge does a much better job.

i will continue attending the recruiting bash for other reasons.....but probably leave off the ToTT

fwiw, i did have several items i liked tho: tommys fish house had a jalapeno infused cream cheese pastry topped with a rasp jelly that was really good. tj ribs (not really a fan) had a stuffed cajunseasoned fish topped with "paradise sauce" that was quite tasty. off the hook had some alligator sausage that i am goin to pick up....it was good. couyons pulled pork was tender and juicy. whole foods had a shrimp dip that my wife enjoyed. chimes served a shrimp ettouffee over grits that i thought was the best in the bldg. didnt really care for anyones jambalaya...everyone (except for my own) seems to include too much tomato for my palate.

Since I'm posting off my iPhone and can't quote this message is for zombie:

I don't think the point of this event was to give out large portions. We were not allowed to make money off the food and had to pay money for a booth. Myself we had over $750 invested with the food, displays, etc. I think it is mainly for advertising for the restaurants to get their name out(especially for us since we are new).

By the way, what was the price of a ticket? Was it $20 a person?

booth was only $150 but you had to have samples for 2500 to 3000 people. Unless your "product" can be cooked in a large pot then portioned out its tough to participate. Remember its a "taste" of tailgating. Anyone know where the $20 per person times 3,000 people went?

There are multiple locations. Are there different owners?

Either way I like them. My roommate won a 20 person free tailgate for a game sponsored by them this year.

But I agree, the portions were really small everywhere. The good thing is they weren't really regulating too much each time you went up. I could take three samples at once, so the portion sizes didn't bother me too much.

The small amounts of beer the budweiser booths were giving was a bit ridiculous. I gave up on the shots of beer and went and got margaritas.

Overall, I had a great time though. Definitely going again next year.

Apparently, attendance keeps going up each year with this year taking a pretty substantial jump. My displeasure was that the food booths started running out of food before 7pm. In year's past, the food being given out was much more plentiful and I was a little disappointed with portion sizes too. After all, people pay to sample the BR fare.

I don't know what the answer is for the vendors....how much business does your appearance at ToTT drum up for you? Does it end up being worth your $750+overhead costs?

TTP .. i found the vast majority of the booths out there really have nothing to do with the tailgate game anyway ... i had a hard time with the association between some of them out there and actual game day tailgating food-wise myself ..

I actually enjoyed it more this year than when I went about three years ago. There was more food and less junk hand outs.

I got there just as it opened and made one round for food, getting a nice taste of a lot of stuff. The middle hour, I spent getting autographs, visiting non-food booths, registering for the giveaways, etc. At 7pm, the crowd was thinning and we made another food round. Alot of booths were running out of food, but there was still a lot of booths with food and there were no lines. We had our fill on the second pass.

The best thing was the stuffed catfish (Chime's I think). It was not a tiny serving. It could have been an entire entree' at a restaurant.

There was also a very good shrimp & corn soup that was unbelievable.(Couyon's I think)

For $40 (+$3.50 a beer), my entire family had a great time. My two daughters are 5 and 3, so they got in for free.

Biggest mistake, I tried some great food, but cannot remember where it came from. The event needs to make a map some visitors can check off booths they really enjoyed.

I haven't been to the Recruiting Bash. Was wondering how that was. I think the fire marshal only allows 3000 people in there. I have a Spanish Town Krewe and I know for a fact they can only sell 3000 tickets to the ball (which is held there) for that reason.

When it was in the PMAC, it used to be all food vendors. Maybe a vendor or two who showcased handcrafted items, but not the Army. Almost felt like it was the Biz Tech Expo.

I want to say the money goes to TAF. It's what I've heard and would make the most sense but I could be wrong.

Yeah. There was some bistro in gonzales that appeared to be serving sensation salad.

Great idea!
