Can't believe I have lived in BR since 2004 and just went to this restaurant on Saturday. WOW!
I got the Pontchartrain which was a pan sauteed filet of black drum under a fried softshell blue crap topped hollandaise, toasted almonds and pecans and honey. It was unbelievably good and a nice sized portion too.
The wife got the Crevettes which was the same black drum under 6 good sized sauteed shrimp and hollandaise. It too was fantastic.
We also had the crab cakes for an appetizer.

Definitely a gem. The fish en papillote is absolutely incredible!

If it's the same as the one in Destin, it is badass.

For some reason, the dish descriptions from this place always strike me as being a bit overkill.

as someone who enjoys the restaurant, I agree with this statement. While everything I have had there has been really good, I wish they would have more dishes that included fresh fish simply seasoned and grilled.

I plan on going here Thursday night. What's the best thing that's not a fish dish?

As someone who thinks this restaurant is way overrated, I agree with this statement. Butter, sauces, toppings-----way overkill.

Went there last Monday. Good Food. Below average service. No atmosphere. If you're looking for the original Ralph and Kakoo's recipes, you're in for a treat, otherwise, a yawner......sorry

While creole may have more sauces than cajun food (the lines are blurred IMO), I don't think we can blame our dislike of the restaurant on "creole" cuisine. They just overdo almost everything with butter and stuffings and shite. It is like they are trying to fit every classic Louisiana ingredient into each dish. I respect other people's opinions, but I just don't see the love for this place.

La Lagniappe isn't creole anyway.

If I wasn't going to get fish, I would get the ribeye as it is rated prime.

The Beef Tournedos are very good.

They use a lot of sauces but you do have the choice of a few entrees that dont have sauces. They do a good job on their sauces so I dont care. But if butter sauces are not your thing then I could see how you wouldnt like it.
As for stuffing though thats a bit retarded statement since only two items on the menu contain stuffing that I could find. One of which is a dish that requires a stuffing. This is certainly not a restaurant that is looking to apease someone that wants the ingredients to speak for themselves. If that is what you are looking for then this isnt your restaurant. That doesnt mean they dont do well with what they do though.

I realize that all the dishes don't have butter, stuffing, sauces, toppings, etc. I was just rambling about the cooking style. Most people on here seem to really like the place and I respect their opinions, so they must "do well with what they do", as you put it. I just don't care for the style.

I find that they do some of the simple things well. Their soups are always solid for example.
Some of the dishes are overkill with all the sauces though

i'm not.
it's 2 seperate comments. I don't think LA Lagniappe is traditional creole.
I don't dislike LL either. Ive had some very good meals at LL, just can't eat it too often.

Yes it is, possibly the best meal I've ever had.
