And Crowton had never coached against SEC defenses before 07. OMG neither had Urban Meyer, or Petrino they had never coached in SEC.

Sit Jefferson had never played against an SEC defense prior to last year.

Kiffin never coached in SEC he is screwed

OMG THE WORLD IS COMING TO AND END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And he did this against WHO????? YEA I thought so!! LET ME EDUCATE YOU!!! RATTEY WAS a nice qb, But he would have NEVER done that against SEC D'S!!!!

And you know this...how? This isn't "Louisiana Tech offense vs <insert D>," it's "Tim Rattay vs <insert D>," so assume the same talent level on offense between compared quarterbacks and tell me he couldn't.

Considering what they did to Nebraska in 98 that was pretty impressive. A team that beat a Tennessee team 42-17 in their bowl game.

A Tenessee team that featured Peerless Price, Peyton Manning, Al Wilson, Jamaal Lewis, Leonard Little, and Shaun Ellis.

To elaborate:
1998 loaded Tennessee team scored 17 on Nebraska
1998 La Tech team scored 27

I'd need some more comparisons to just use stuff like this as proof, but it's as good a start as any.

Why was Lee so bad?
Probably same reason most freshmen QB's are bad in SEC. They are FRESHMEN, they have not fully learned playbook, they lock onto one receiver, they attempt to do stuff that they got away with in high school. Its not a hard concept to grasp really.

Its not like he was the first Freshmen QB to struggle in SEC and I do not think he will be the last either.

All that was said was that your point about Lee's mobility preventing him from succeeding in Crowton's offense was unbacked. And it is.

Lee had issues, mainly with staring down receivers and from my observations not checking his reads as well as one might hope. In other words, mental development as a QB that comes with all freshman QBs was what was missing.

Granted, being able to run would help, no one denies that... but nonetheless, his physical tools weren't the problem.

Bottom line is that MILES needs to stay away from Crowton and let HIm DO HIS JOB!!!

LES got in the way last year and IF he is SMART he will move aside. BTW JJ or Lee haven't proved ANYTHING to me that we will have more than a 9 win season at best!!!

Well neither Lee or Jefferson has proven anything. Thats a different argument all together.

I do doubt Les got in the way as much as you would believe.

Not even close. There are far, FAR more posters on this board who would much rather obsess on anything wrong, bad or unpleasant about LSU than anything good. Optimism is virtually taboo on this board, punishable by the dreaded "homer" label, as if automatically assuming the worst about everyone and everything Purple & Gold was someone more objective or "cooler" than actually having faith or (god forbid) hope.

Tom Hodson '86, Herb Tyler '95 & '96, JaMarcus '05? All of them had good, successful seasons with less than a year's playing experience before the season started. And that's just at LSU.

Thanks, Joey.

I keep coming back to the foundation of Ole Miss's and Alabama's great season, and the more I think on it, the more I am convinced that they were opportunists last year!

This year, when LSU has our act back together, they are both going back in the line, ya dig?

And we're rebutting a Mississippi State QB's hearsay on experience.

Because when it comes to quarterbacking in the SEC, Miss. St. sets the standard.

Especially during their heyday in the 1980s.

Ole Miss was a quintessential Houston Nutt team: a good bit of overlooked talent, a fairly easy schedule, a bit of luck, and out of nowhere a good (but not great) season that noone expected and convinces everyone Houston Nutt really is a crazy genius coach -- except the people who have seen it over and over again before. Put the spotlight on them, and history (both Nutt's and Ole Miss') suggests they will crumble.

Bama was a really good defense with a REALLY good schedule and a barely mediocre offense . . . and had to go to OT to beat us with our worst QB performance of the year (which was saying something last year). This year they have a perhaps moderately improved defense, zero offense, a harder schedule and Saban following up a big year. The one positive in that collection (better defense) is hardly likely to outweigh all the other negatives.

From reading this board LSU better hope it fixed the problems from last season.
Suicide rate will triple in Baton Rouge if LSU struggles through another season.

Last years' problems are in the past... naked at QB and major defensive coordinator issues. Of course, there'll be issues this year, too, it just won't be the same issues, or catastrophic. I don't think LSU will "surprise" any opponent's coaches... but this year will be nothing like last year. I'm just glad that the pivotal game is now LSU v. Bama... instead of LSU v. Auburn in terms of our season, which, until last year, has been the case since the early 90's.
