I live near by and can not wait to try it out. Anything is better than that nasty sonic it replaced.

no, it is in it's own building and actually called Cou-Yon's Cajun bbq rather than "Texas bbq" like the one in br connected to the gas station. oh, and they have the best moist brisket on either side of the Mississippi!!!!

As opposed to what?

You have a choice of getting moist or dry brisket plates?

There is a "moist" cut of brisket, which is just fattier, and then there is the lean cut

I know, I'm just being an a-hole because BBQ in Louisiana is awful.

After I figured out where you were talking about (Highway 1 / N. Alexander in "downtown" PA), I took my chances with the big bridge and stopped by there for lunch. Big brisket sandwich was not bad at all. Lean-cut meat was still tender and juicy. Proprietor Paul made several rounds to introduce himself to customers, nice touch.

I agree with lsumailman61. The Mashed Potatoes are terrible as is the powdered-based gravy that they put on them. In fact... All of their side items are crap.

The meat is not bad!

Just finished my first meal at Couyons.

Interior.

They did a very good job with the dump left for them by sonic.

Meals.

Wife had the two meat combo with two sides and toast. She had the brisket and pulled pork with beans and mac n cheese $8.49. She enjoyed the brisket, pulled pork and baked beans. I would pass on the mac n cheese next time.

I had the half pound pulled pork sandwich 6.50 with baked beans 1.75 both tasted good and it was plenty of food. The owners wife told me (sorry to sound like Afreaux) that tomorrow is the Grand opening and they will have a "world" champion BBQ'er, giving out free samples as well as live music.

Its a place I welcome to the Westside and will surely be back.

Im already planning my next meal,
Waffle fries with cheese, onions, sour cream, japs, covered with pulled pork or Stuffed BBQ Taters.

Waffle fries at Couyon's?! Man, I hope they bring that to the Burbank location. I always stop at McD's for fries when I order takeout.

Well gee guys...I mean c'mon! Mashed potatos...with Bar-B-Q! That's just not right! Potato Salad with BBQ! Not mashed, and NOT fries! POTATO SALAD with BBQ!

And the proper application of JACK MILLER'S or PIG STAND Louisiana style BBQ Sauce elevates Louisiana BBQ to a high level...IMHO. Many big city folks here insist on using national sauces and have never experienced the joy that is true Louisiana style BBQ. Sad.

And no I don't have a problem with Texas, K.C., Tennessee, or Carolina sytles...all good in thier own ways. Have not had the pleasure of Alabama white sauce as yet, but my mind is open.

I had the opportunity to go by the grand opening. The owners at Couyons had the 2009 world bbq champs there talking about bbq techniques and giving out samples of their award winning recipes. This was the guy on the Food Network!!! He was super nice and had one bad boy bbq get up. Very nice that they could get someone like that out there.

The food was great. They have more options than the Gardere location and the loaded gator tater is out of this world. The Cou Cou fries were awesome too!

I like the direction they are taking and it is well worth the time crossing the bridge. The inside of the building was really nice and has a feeling like you are on the back porch. Everyone there was really nice. They do counter service, which can take a few minutes as they cut everything and prepare it as ordered. I would take fresh any day over that dried out nasty meat served at Voo Doo.

I had the fully dressed lean brisket sandwich and the Cou-Cou Waffle fries. Mrs. Wrench had the two-meat combo (pulled pork and ribs) with mac and cheese and baked beans. Also came with toast. We tried both the regular and sweet sauces. All varieties of meat we ordered were delicious.

Mac and cheese is average. The baked beans made up for it though. Great food, very nice people, great atmosphere.

Wish I lived closer.
