I know where to go now for a huge steak at a good price. some friends and i went last night and here are my thoughts:

tamales: very good. i could have made a meal out of those. and the chili they serve with it is awesome.

salad: when you advertise a salad as a "marinated" salad, you shouldn't use lettuce. the dressing caused the lettuce to be soft and almost mushy. not appetizing. it was literally a bowl of wilted lettuce. if it didn't come with the meal, i would have just skipped it

steak: got the 1.5 lb porterhouse. freakin awesome. steak was cooked absolutely perfectly and was seasoned well. i opted to get fries because i like the steak and fries combo. fries were decent and they gave you a shovel full of them

biscuits: these were awesome and sort of tasted like bengiets. they have honey on the table to put on them

didn't save any room for dessert. with three friends, my share of the bill came out to $43. not bad for a huge steak with sides. i'll definitely be going back.

also, we asked the waiter what was the most he had seen someone eat. he said a guy once ate 4 hot tamales, salad, a ton of fries, and a 5 lb poreterhouse! and the scary part? he then ordered dessert and ate that as well

Good review.

One of my favorite places to dine in BR.

ETA, I may be the only person around who actually really likes/appreciates something about that little throwaway salad they give you.

I had lunch there a few days ago. I kind of liked the salad. The tamales were ok, but in paper wrappers. I thought the chile tasted like Hormel.

i respectfully disagree. they use the tips from the filet mignons in their chili. spices in it were great as well

No tips in mine and no spice. They must have run out and opened a can.

I second your review... pretty much the whole thing. I agree the salad left room for improvement. I really liked the fries with the steak... definitely a notch above regular fries.

Yeah we went to the one on government street. After talking to the waiter, it's a unique franchise in that you have to work at one for an extended period of time before being considered to own one. Then the owner can out their own touches on the restaurant (like the lsu room for the BR Doe's)

I know they purchase their meat from Sterling Silver Premium Meats. On their website they say their meetnis graded Prime or Choice/AAA. They also said their meat was in the top 12% served in the country. My porterhouse was very good regardless.
