lunch per day?
I've cut back this week, after I got chewed out by my wife.
Just curious.

I don't work anymore but when I did, I always brought my lunch, either leftovers or a Lean Cuisine, so less than $5.00 a day easily. My husband eats in the hospital cafeteria but his group covers it. If he was paying, he would be spending about $5-$7 a day.

When we were eating out all the time I'd say the average was around 8 bucks per day per person. Some days we would eat a plate lunch for 6 and another we would pop 10 down on a little more pricier menu.
Not anymore though. While we still eat out occasionally and still eat at the same places, we eat leftovers most of the time as we saw how much money we were blowing on lunch every day and it was shocking. Not to mention our leftovers from the night before is way beyond what we were going to get eating out most places, and all we did was begin cooking just a bit more to take to lunch with us. It's much much cheaper, and better, and we don't have to get out in traffic, burn gas, and time getting lunch. It just makes more sense all the way around for us.

I only eat out one or two days a week and spend between $8 and $10 each for those meals.

I'm a teacher, so most days I bring my lunch. When I do choose to eat in the cafeteria, I spend $3.25 for lunch and bottled water.

My wife looked through the numbers, which in itself is unusual and found that I have spent $235.00 on lunch since June 1, 2009.
She has only spent $105.00.
My defense? She has an office job and a fully operational kitchen at her office.
I work in outside sales.
But, I do see her point. I could and should easily start bringing my own lunch.

Not really...just a young attorney with loans...eating out is just what I spend my money on...and I do it wisely (very rarely order expensive bottles, etc.)

i dont spend more than 50 on lunch during the week. even tho thats 200 a month or so, i dont go out to eat every day and i dont go out to eat at night. more often than not, im eating leftovers from what i cooked yesterday.

After reading this thread, I have decided to cut back on weekly expenditures a bit...
Posted on 7/16/09 at 11:05 am to Will Cover
no more that $12 dollars / day. I've really cut back on going out to eat for dinner (probably havent gone more than 6 times in the past 5 months), but I'll go out to lunch at least 4xs a week.

She either wants to make a big purchase, is about to get laid off, or thinks she might be pregnant. She also could think you're cheating on her and was looking for transactions to confirm this. I'd be worried about more than your lunch bill.
