in my opinion. For those of you who haven't seen SUNDAY'S SPORTS headline in the ADVOCATE, it says..... "Heroes step forward". Even though I was reading the sports section, the headline caught me off guard. I am kind of a sports junkie but I think the word "hero" should be a more reserved word used for those in the military, the parents who raise mentally challenging children, the ones who struggle everyday to make life better for those less fortunate... the list goes on and on. Sure, LSU had its share of people who stepped up their game yesterday, but the word "hero" is not one that I would have used. Oh yeah, today is FLAG DAY in case anyone cares. My flag hangs from my front yard tree every day to remind me of the heroes both past and present that have fought for me and you. God Bless America on this celebration of Flag Day and

I tend to agree, but I wouldn't be so hypersensitive...its just baseball, lighten up.

Sports pages are sold on hyperbole.

You've made up your own definition of hero and they didn't get the memo.

*Insert LSURussian's obligatory post about how Carl Dubois would have made a better headline.

You know, Im a pretty conservative guy who respects the military and our firefighters and police men and women and parents of special children etc etc etc...

But come on...this is a sports column and he's talking about "SPORTS" heros. And since I love what student athletes and other amateur athletes represent...I would say it's not that big of a deal to call certain things "heroic" when talking about sports.

Its not like there was a column talking about the heroic mailman who delivered all his mail in a blizzard or something...

Is it ok if we call Spider Man a hero? What about the pilot who ditched in the Hudson?

Loosen up. I know we live in the age of PC-ism to the extreme, just let it go. He was a hero to our baseball team. People can be heroes in many facets. Let it go.

Just be thankful that in America you have the freedom to be an a-hole, thanks to heroes. Or something like that.

I tend to agree with Raparooot. To use the word hero is a bit out of line. That word should be reserved for people like the guys that stormed Omaha Beach on D-Day and the firefighters and police officers rushing up the stairs on 9-11. You guys that are saying Raparooot is being oversensative just don't see where he is coming from. Good post Raparooot!!!!!

I also have a flag in my front yard that flies every single day.
