I don't know LSU's overall record, but I'm fairly certain they've never won the National Championship after losing their first game. Also, I know they were undefeated in Omaha their last three National Championships...1996, 1997, and 2000. Not sure about 1991 and 1993. They won the first two in 1998 before being beat by USC twice, so that's one time when they won the first game and didn't win the National Championship.

LSU never lost a game during their NC runs. Never lost a NC game either.

I'm pretty sure one of their ntnl' champs. came after they lost one of their games. They did come back in the consolation brackets to win the champ. Think so.

I remember the USC series in 98 the same guy we beat in game one shoved it up our azz the next time. I know winning game one is important but really no more than game two except perhaps momentum. Just curious if there was a correlation to winning game one and winning NC. Thanks for the history lessons.

Not sure about any other years but I know that the Tigers won the opener in 1987. That was the year they were eliminated by Stanford on a game ending Grand Slam.

1998 was a very disappointing year - we were going for the threepeat, and tore through the first two games hitting a bunch of home runs. Then a cold front came into Omaha with cold temeratures and a strong wind blowing in. All those potential home runs turned into long fly outs, and we lost twice on the same day. That was a good team that probably would have won it all if not for the unfortunate turn of events with the weather.

that LBSU come from behind win was on Friday and Armando Rios and Todd Walker did the heavy lifting. Gabe Gonzalez was their stud reliever who took the loss.

Next day was the title game vs Wichita State. They are still seeing Laxton in their nightmares.

1986- lost game 1 to Loyola
1988- lost game 1 to Miami
1990- won the first game I cant remember who it was against (Citadel or Creighton) but we lost to OK State twice
1994- we lost to lost Fla. State and I'm pretty sure Cal St is still scoring on us
2003- lost to Cal State and then South Carolina
2004- lost to Miami and then South Carolina

That's all I can remember, the 5 NC season are already listed as well as the 1998 CWS

This is what I found on ncaa.org link:LINK

Title trip-ups
In nine of the previous Men's College World Series, the national runner-up was undefeated going into the championship game.

Texas (1989)

Oklahoma State (1990)

Wichita State (1991, 1993)

Georgia Tech (1994)

Miami (Florida) (1996)

Arizona State (1998)

Stanford (2000, 2001)

Four times, a once-beaten team has won the championship over a previously undefeated team.

1989 -- Wichita State over Texas

1990 -- Georgia over Oklahoma State

1993 -- LSU over Wichita State

1998 -- Southern California over Arizona State

They were only undefeated twice going to finals and when playing for the finals they have never finished second, always first. My fault on my last post. None the less

You should be a Stanford fan. An LSU fan would never do that to his fellow LSU fans.
