Thoughts? He's 35 so most of his memory is of LSU baseball from the mid to late 80's until now. I disagree with him and told him LSU baseball was nothing until Skip got to BR and that historically LSU is a football school which is one of the top 15 winningest programs of all time.

Isn't it possible to be both a baseball school and football school?

LSU was a football school 3 years ago. Now we are a baseball school going to OMAHA in a week.

We're #9 in the all-time football rankings ... CFB Data Warehouse

LSU is a football school. We like baseball too.

I think of LSU as a baseball school. Then again, that probably has to do with LSU's dominance of baseball while simultaneously sucking at football during my youth.

Why limit yourself.

LSU is a sports school. We are the only school in the SEC with double digit SEC championships in football, basketball and baseball.
Our track teams have won numerous SEC and national championships as well.

Yeah, I imagine that might skew your perspective a little.

But I agree that historically LSU is a football school. I'd say now it's both. Baseball is bigger at LSU than it seems to be with other school's fanbases and we've had a lot of success in our recent history.

What we're definitely not is a lacrosse school.

I agree, we're not a lacrosse school.

I think of Tennessee as being a womens basketball school.

LSU is a football school.

Other examples:

CSUF and Mississippi State are baseball schools.

Louisville has a good baseball team this year, but they are a basketball school.

Florida has had some excellent basketball teams lately, but they are a football school.

Hope this clears up the confusion.

It doesn't, because LSU has one of the best baseball programs in the country and has rabid baseball fans.

While football will always be king, it's safe to say that LSU is both.

I think of the saying "School X is a ____ school" to mean what that school is known best for overall; and what its fanbase most closely see as their school's core sports identity. So, in my mind, you can only choose one sport for that.

What has defined Louisville sports success? Basketball. A BCS bowl berth or CWS appearance doesn't change that.

Given that they are one of the few schools to make real money at it, that's at least partially true. Regardless of what one thinks of the game they do sell tickets and rake in money.

Using such logic, I guess that makes Georgia a women's gymnastics school.
