ross did really well.

the tigers took that first pitch for a strike everytime...

and I agree: landry should have seen some pitching.

the guy is on a hotstreak right now.

I like maineri but he screwed this one up. If we lose today there is no guarantee we get a top eight seed. We should have focused on winning the first two games and then see what happens. No its not ross's fault but it does send the wrong message in my opinion to rest of the team. Hindsight is always 20/20 but its just my two cents.

Dude he didn't get any run support, giving up 2 runs should be enough to win the game with the talent on this team...yes Ross struggles with high pitch counts but he did enough to win and the bats let him down last nite...

1. If you are attempting to bash our coach's decision to start Ross, would you please at the very least spell our head coaches name correctly.

2. The main topic of this threat is an EPIC FAIL! Ross did not pitch badly- in fact he was able to work out of a couple of rough situations. In baseball (since the original poster apparently has never played baseball) you HAVE to get run support to really be successful. Ross got zero help from the bats last night while he was in the game.

3. I had no problem at all with Mainieri starting Ross. Had we won the game, I am thinking that this EPIC FAIL thread would not exist in the first place...

Hanover missed a sac bunt in the 2nd

I believe this was the biggest screw up of the game. I'm not saying that is why we lost but it set the tone for the game. Hanover knows what to do in that situation any ball player does. So to say that he missed the signal is unacceptable.

While I disagree with the OP., I do have to say this staement might be just as retarded. You win the first few games so you don't have to go into the losers bracket.

So throw your best 2 starters the first 2 games?

im saying the team did not take the game seriously

While I disagree with the post, I can agree with this statement to a degree. The team looked like they were just going through the motions. Even the game announcers mentioned prior to the game that coach was on their asses in practice for lolly-gagging.

bc they took a cue from the coach by who he pitched tonight.

That's retarded. Coach was fired up. I also agree with the decision because he is setting up his rotation for the Regional. He's not going to pitch Renaudo or Coleman against a SWAC team in the opener.

One thing continues to be painfully obvious: this team REALLY needs to figure out how to hit against southpaws. I think they're 14-13 against lefties now.

I fully expect them to snap back today. It's baseball, and sometimes a pitcher will come in and dominate like that. Even if they had thrown Coleman, they probably would have lost that game. You tip your hat to Minor and move on to face Bama with your top two pitchers still available. That said, I would pitch Coleman today. He has the rubber arm and could potentially pitch again for a few innings if you need him late in the tourney.

BTW, to correct an earlier post that I saw, all 4 runs were charged to Ross. It was 2-0 when Bradshaw came in, but there were two runners on.

i think the team shared the same sentiment that they don't really care what they do in this tournament. Ross has been awful the entire second half of the season and u dont pitch him against a lefty ace if you really want this game tonight.

Your a fricking idiot. Ross pitched a good game, definitely good enough for us to win. We just didn't hit the ball.

Considering Ross gave up only 2 earned runs in 6 innings, you are wrong.

1) Ross pitched well we just didn't score enough runs.

2) When we hit the ball hard we hit it right at people.

3) Hitting into three double plays didn't help.

4) I think the decision to pitch Ross was the right decision. In theory the deeper you get into the tournament the better the competition. Being the #1 seed, the "easiest" opponent you will face will be in the first game. Why would you waste your ace pitchers when the odds say you will beat them with your Sunday starter. If we are able to generate a few runs we are in primo position not using up our aces.

Uhh Ross was credited with giving up 4 runs not 2. He was in fact still responsible for the guys that he put on base when he left the inning. That said it was hitting that cost us the game not Ross.

Ross was also lucky to get out of a few jams.

Goodness I was wondering how many people here were going to to get the run count wrong for Ross.

Hitting cost us the game, plan and simple, just like it has in all 13 loses to left handed pitchers. Now I won't go as far as saying PM didn't care about the game but it is safe to say that he wanted AR and LC to pitch in a game where we will probably get a little more run support to get the wins. A coach always cares no matter who the opponent is so to say he doesn't is stupid but they are also smarter then we are and know when to let your ACE get another days rest.
