this is a crazy freakin movie.

I'm about 2/3 of the way through it and it crazier with each stop upriver.

Duvall was hilarious.

The bunnies were great.

The Bridge getting blown to hell was one of the freakiest settings i could imagine.

I need to get this on blu-ray (if it exists)

I think it is the best film ever made. Just wait until you see the last third. You haven't seen anything yet.

That movie loses all sense of reality after the bridge blows up. But it is one hell of a movie.

Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?
Lance: What?
Kilgore: Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that.
[kneels]
Kilgore: I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like
[sniffing, pondering]
Kilgore: victory. Someday this war's gonna end...

Robert Duvall was one crazy dude.

And you felt the need to take a break to come post about it? This thread couldn't have waited until it was over? I'm not criticizing, I'm just somewhat baffled.

You haven't even seen Dennis Hopper's or Marlon Brando's appearance yet. You are in for a mind freak son.

A must watch for every generation. Based on Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" and to say it does it justice is a huge understatement. Probably better than the book.

My favorite part isn't the napalm scene or when he gets to Kurtz' camp. It's near the beginning in the trailer with Harrison Ford and the "brass". So much going on in that scene that you never think of as "Vietnam". Same deal with the French plantation (not in some versions). Make sure to see the Redux.

redux--coppola's director's cit makes it the greatest war movie of all. brando has more scenes and the visit to the french household explains a lot. great great movie.

Great, great movie. The decay of order and authority as they moved upriver was cool.

Cannot remember watching the original all the way through. My Mom probably wouldn't have let me at that time. The entire visit to the French house was not in the original? Also the end cutting the cow in half could not have been on the original? I was not ready for that on HBO at 1100 in the morning .

Zero. That entire landing was cut.

It was in it, perhaps not replayed as many times.

Just finished watching this last night, gotta say I don't think it lived up to the hype it has earned through the years although it is a definite must watch just based on its history.

Wow. It is certainly a good movie and a "different" movie, but greatest film ever might be a stretch.
