Similar to the Super 1 thread, my parents are bringing up a few sacks for me to boil next weekend in Virginia and was thought about having them get them from Rouses. Has anyone gotten live from there? Decent size or just peelers? Thanks for feedback. When I moved away Rouses hadn’t come to BR yet, so not familiar with their game.

I got a sack from Rouses last year and they were no different in size or quality from the seafood place I usually got them from. Only difference was price with Rouses being cheaper.

Matter of fact, Rouses has them on sale for $1.99 a lb. through this Sunday here in N.O. according to their store ad.

We got a sack from Rouses in Central for Easter, I held them in a cooler overnight as always and when I opened the bag 2/3 were dead. I boil enough to know that sometimes you just get a bad sack, not really bad on them. They did make it right by replacing it but that wouldn't be possible in your case. The crawfish were medium-large and took a little work to clean, nothing to be mad about.

The manager said they get crawfish from six different suppliers which makes quality control more difficult. Not sure I'll buy there again knowing that part.

Just curious how you stored the crawfish in a cooler that resulted in 20+ pounds of dead crawfish.

Did you leave the ice chest top closed ? Did you cover them with multiple bags of ice with holes in the bag so defrosted water could drain on them ?

Open the drain plug, add a layer of ice and a towel, then the sack of crawfish. Prop the lid open to hold overnight, never had any problem.

I can imagine they will have a big variance if getting from 6 different suppliers.

I picked up some at the Rouses on Power last week. They store them in a cooler and when put in a tub to rinse it appeared many were dead. But at closer inspection they were just moving real slow because of being cooler stored. I was actually surprised onyly a few dead and that was due to being crushed.

I did find them to need several rinses to clean them up but nothing too crazy.

Got two sacks of selects from rouses yesterday. You have to call ahead and order these. They were the biggest crawfish I have seen in my life. 75% of the sack was like the below.

FWIW I have hobbit feet. I wear a size 8 shoe.

A friend of mine used crawfish from Rouses for two boils before Easter this year and had a lot of dead ones both times. That was only four sacks out of the 100s/1000s they sell but based on that experience, I’ll keep buying from the seafood market.

I have had bad experiences with too many dead crawfish when I have bought from Rouses on previous occasions.

For this reason I prefer buying from a smaller distributor.

People like their crawfish to be huge but I prefer medium since they are easier to peel and absorb the liquid boil better.

You get what you pay for. I bought 10 lbs of boiled from them last week and they were not very good. I would not buy live crawfish from them. Small and a lot of dead ones.
