Wade fishing shoes

I am going to be moving to Tampa and planning on doing some wade fishing in the bay. The areas I have been scouting on maps are not tourist type beaches but places I can access shallow waters but will be a bit more back country. I would like to avoid walking out a mile or more and end up getting injured by stepping on something that could cause an injury.
Anyone have any recommendations on footwear that they use in this type of fishing?
While I would like to spend less money I am not opposed to spending more for a good product since I would likely spend triple that if something happened and I had to pay the medical bill to get stitched up.

Don’t wet wade but these should fit the bill. Better find out what the stingray population looks like before going bare on Ray guards.

I’ve used boots like these for years, between these or the Magellan brand and every pair I’ve owned have lasted multiple seasons. Decent grip and with the strap at the top helps keep debris out of the boot. I’ve walked on oysters, shellls, etc and have never had an issue.

I have always just gone to Walmart or Academy and bought the cheap aqua shoes.

I’d look at scuba/ snorkeling booties OP. Like the 2nd ones posted. But you just gotta learn to drag your feet and walk slowly. If you step on something like a stingray it can easily barb through neoprene or above the boot. My wife recently got hit on the top of her foot by the leg. Idk if a shoe would have done anything.
Shoes will help with rocks, random glass, etc though

So I wear Barts Bay Armor wade boots with Simms Neoprene socks when wet wading. I also have a pair of Simms Free Salt boots that I wear with waders when the water temps are cooler. I would and have worn both in either application though. For what you want, I would get the Barts. They are both really comfortable, but I feel more at ease wearing the barts due to rays, oysters, etc. Just need to size up appropriately(think mine are 13s and I am a size 10.5/11 usually) on the Barts if ever planning on wearing them with waders. That's why I have the neoprene socks for wet wading to fill the gap.

what ever happened to old tennis shoes?

I wade fish and I just use a pair of old tennis shoes. Didn't see the point in spending additional money. I just rinse them with fresh water when I'm done and set them up in front of a fan in my garage. It won't protect me from a ray, but neither will most wade shoes. I wear them to protect my feet from stepping on shells, rocks, or litter and the tennis shoes do an adequate job at that and I can keep them tight on my feet

Have been wearing a Magellan brand pair like these for years.
This is the best thing about these boots. No tiny shells getting between your foot and sole.

I mean.. if you're a baller, the Patagonia River Salt II boots are pretty amazing. They're also $350 bucks.

Agree on all. With the name, I’m sure you’re familiar with the terrain south of the coast. Mud lumps, small shells, oysters, etc. that strap does wonders.
