I don’t see a problem with this. Top companies should be asked to be involved if they have technology to better suit the military or general public. One thing I liked during Covid was the use of the defense production act. I have no problems with government incentives for progress or innovation as long as it’s not frivolous. Look how well nasa has done since working with space x.

My armored personnel carrier bristling with lethal firepower in my mechanized infantry unit in Vietnam was built by FMC…Food Machinery Corporation of Pennsylvania. My Dad’s .30 cal carbine he carried in WW2 was made by a pinball machine company in Chicago.
