Heading down to Lafayette in a few weeks and planning on hitting Old Tyme, Poseidons, and maybe Poor Boys. My kid is big on sushi rolls, though, so wanted to see about recs from the board. May try another place other than Poor Boys and just do crawfish. Any suggestions on crawfish would be appreciated too.

We may go to Dwight’s. We used to go there back when we lived down there 20+ years ago. I guess they’re still going strong.

I've heard some really good comments about Fish Box Sushi on Settler's Trace...

I really like Ahi Sushi. Tam owns it. He was the original owner of Samurai Sushi.

It's good for what it is, a fast-casual spot to maybe grab some lunch, but not really worthy of making a trip just to go there.

We recently tried Minami downtown and enjoyed it.

Crawfish Time on Verot

Sushi I've had with quick scores on food/atmosphere to help with your decision.

Minami (food: 7.5, atmosphere: 7.5)
Fuji (food: 8, atmosphere: 4)
Rock N Sake (food: 7, atmosphere: 9)
Tsunami (food: 6, atmosphere: 8)
Oishi (food: 10, atmosphere: 1)
Samurai - Amb Caff (food: 7, atmosphere: 3)
Nhi (food: 6, atmosphere: 6)
Sushi Masa (food: 4, atmosphere: 5)
Fish Box (food: 5, atmosphere: 2)
Osaka (food: 7, atmosphere: 6)

Haven't tried Ahi Sushi, but if OG owner of Samurai owns it like poster says, probably very solid.

Sushi:
Minami (owner is usually in there, great fish, going to have belly and other things that you can't find at the other places)
Oishi (great fresh sushi, place is very small)
Tsunami (Downtown, good atmosphere when it's poppin)
Rock N Sake (Typically have a few good lookers working in there)

Osaka has some Korean dishes as well as sushi rolls, if anyone in your party is less into raw fish.

Fuji Sushi is my favorite, but it is temporarily closed now. Oishi and Rock n Sake are also great.

C'est Bon in Youngsville for crawfish.

I would not skip Riverside, though. Food good and I love to feed those crazy raccoons after the meal.

Tam sold Samurai several years ago. He and his son opened Ahi last year and it’s legit. I’ve known Tam since the late 80’s he was a sushi chef at Koto ? In Baton Rouge which was located on College and Perkins.

Tam moved to Lafayette in 1993 and opened the first sushi establishment in the city. He had a small corner spot in Chung King (Time Plaza shopping center). He would call me when fresh orders of uni arrived since it has a very short shelf life and I love be some uni

Don’t skip out on Poor Boys Riverside or Poseidon.

Regarding poboys, Pop’s Poboys downtown on Jefferson > Old Tyme

Caliber of the Chirashi bowl is the best metric for ranking these joints.

And if they don’t have a chirashi bowl or expansive sashimi menu, it’s pretty much a joke.

I promise we won’t skip Poseidon. Wife and I are both Poseidon addicts. I eat there every time I visit. Haven’t had Poor Boys in a while, but I always loved the food, and I like going to those old places that take you back.
