Guilty
SIAP
What’s the OB’s thoughts on this?
A Johnson from Pitkin pleaded guilty to starting multiple wildfires, mostly at night, on Kisatchie National Forest Lands that are also training lands of Fort Polk.
1.5 years in Federal pen
Once he was arrested he said something to the effect of “I did it because they don’t do enough controls burning.”
The plot gets thicker due to him being a Federal Employee on Polk.
The USDA brought in investigators from other areas and those guys didn’t tell the local Forest Service guys anything about their sting operation.

wonder if they suspected someone who was pro-burn because of the areas that he started the fires. A random arsonist wouldn't care that a particular block was 3 years overdue for a control burn.
They should give him a medal. Kisatchie would be a much more productive place if they burned more.

Yea make that man in charge of all state public lands.
Wish a arsonist would come find my Weyerhaeuser lease.

Sounds like he is dedicated to conservation and a steward of the land. I hope he is pardoned.

Hell yeah. They won't burn a bit. They just like to spray if anything.

as someone that owns 30 acres surrounded by Kisatchie on 3 sides in that area, I don't exactly want random people starting uncontrolled fires, even if I agree that they don't burn enough

I can’t remember if it was the deer U or turkey science podcast guys but one of them mentioned they were in talks with Weyerhaeuser about implementing a burn program. Said they were surprised anyone cared.

I have asked the Weyerhaeuser rep and biologist twice to burn and got the wish we could but they won't let is answer.

I’m paraphrasing but they basically said the company was surprised anyone cared enough to potentially share the cost of it. There’s a lot of liability in it for them, but they made it sound like they were at least listening.
