Rueben Bain, a projected top-10 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, was involved in a fatal traffic collision in Miami in March 2024, according to records and reports reviewed by The Read Optional. The incident has not been previously reported.
Bain, then a sophomore at the University of Miami, was driving on Interstate 95 in Miami at 4 am on 17 March 2024 when his vehicle struck another car before careering into concrete barriers on both sides of the highway, according to police crash records reviewed by The Read Optional.
One of four passengers in Bain's car, Destiny Betts, a 22-year-old college student from Georgia who was visiting Miami for spring break, suffered incapacitating injuries and was rushed to the Ryder Trauma Center from the scene. She never regained consciousness. Betts died on 13 June 2024, after spending almost three months in a coma.

Multiple league sources confirmed they are aware of the incident and are continuing to investigate. It remains unclear if it will affect Bain's draft position.
“It doesn’t feel like [Bain] has been transparent with us.”
“We are concerned about multiple incidents,” another team executive said. “We are waiting for the other shoe.”

Rueben or Reuben?
His name is spelled both ways in the content up above.
Not saying this Ollie person doesn’t have legit info.
But, twitter….
Journalistic standards have become deplorable.

The family didn't press charges or anything and just moved on?
The car was in the name of some Miami Sports company. I wonder how much they paid the family to keep quiet about this.

Because he didn’t go to LSU. It would’ve been mentioned every quarter of every game with numerous articles written.

Are you really playing victim here in defense of your favorite school?
What a little bitch.

This is fishy. You’re telling me that no reporters in Miami got a whiff of him being involved in a wreck and didn’t look any further?
And the family just decided to let it go afterwards? Strange situation

1000% chance teams already knew this

Most can overcome the short arm deal. This who knows

There’s been rumors recently his draft stock was dropping, and it wasn’t because of concerns over his arm length or because teams have other edge rushers ranked a little higher.
Rumors of “Serious Character Concerns” have been floated a couple of places, but nothing specific.

The NFL has valued the cost of a human life at about 8 draft slots, or perhaps, in Donte Stallworth’s case, about $4 million.

Philadelphia Eagles gonna get one hell of a player in the 2nd round.

Wasn't speeding.
Wasn't drunk.
Wasn't charged with anything.
Dead person chose not to wear seat belt.
Dead person's family said it was a tragic accident and no one should be charged.
FWIW, the journalist is a UF fan based on his Twitter history. That could explain it.

When it all became public, I had a friend who knew some of the girls, and he basically said he had known about it for years.
I wonder if this has been known around Coral Gables and kept quiet from the rest of the country intentionally. Wouldn't surprise me. Miami isn't exactly known for their honesty and transparency as an institution or athletic department.

I know someone died but I don't think a car accident that didn't end in arrest will actually be viewed as a serious character concern. Now if he has a bunch of other speeding issues then it might.
