The cops were trying to put gloves on before dealing with him. Also they were obviously in a bit of shock with all that blood he was losing. Tough scene all around

Good question, I think those cops were just timid. Wilmington leans slight republican and violent crime like this is rare. What violent crime happens there is usually by the 15% black population though.

Someone posted that it has been voting Dem lately. It’s has had a Dem Mayor since 2007, had one 2001 - 2003. I am not sure about the mayor in between, but the current one filled out the rest of his term.
The county seems to lean republican.
Dem Governor and a Dem mayor are usually a bad combination for regular people living in that city, and NC consistently votes in Dem Governors regardless of other statewide elections.
