I Shave. Need to watch it again. I can't believe it's been seven years.

That's what happens when the country doesn't get to change leaders. You just follow orders and worry about keeping your boss in office, because that keeps you in office. Every job is like being a deputy sheriff in Louisiana!

It’s one of the best tv shows of all time. Loved it the first time, and it gets even better if you shave every time Dyatlov is on screen.

I don't think I've ever been that stressed watching a show. Holy shite it was a ride.

all the build up to the eventually footage of the reactor exploding, incredible. On the short list of 3 greatest things HBO has ever done.

Absolutely. They made it feel like you were in the control room with those poor guys.

Could not agree more. It is the best thing on HBO max to watch. Such a great show and very re-watchable.

Excellent show and also hard to watch. Especially the scene in the hospital when the wife visits her husband and he barely even looks human anymore! If that were me I’d say just put a bullet in me asap.

Soviet collectivism to the US.

There's an old anecdote from the Cold War which Chernobyl did a fair job of representing (the institutional lying that occurs on a grand scale in these systems):

Ivan works at a shoe factory, and has a quota of 15 pairs of shoes a day. He is low on thread, so he can only produce 5 pairs a day. However, in order to get his pay, he reports 15 pairs of shoes made a day. His other 100 co workers do the same.

The factory manager, hoping to get a larger apartment, reports that 115% of quota was made, even when the actual number is 30%.

Comrade Stalin sees that shoe production is exceeding demand, and tells the plant to produce socks instead. Millions go shoeless.

It’s a good show. I give it 3.6 stars. Not great but not terrible
