Amazon was trying to sell the new Alexa+ AI version a while back but then rolled it out to everyone.

It often gives better answers, but I also hate all the extra chattiness of it. I don't need you to tell me that this weather is perfect for a stroll on the beach or a picnic. I'm trying to get information, not have a conversation, and I don't have the energy to exchange pleasantries with my speaker like I would with a human.

Luckily, you can tell it to change to a "brief" setting, which reduces some of that fluff.

Also, the woman's voice is grating. I also wish they had voice options with a Southern or Australian accent. The GF turned the one in our kitchen to a black dude voice.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, my brother in Christ, but your girlfriend is probably getting stretched out by some BBC.

Hate it because of this and the new girl voice.

Imagine paying to have a device that is spying on you all the time

Note that I know smartphones are probably also always spying on us

Probably?

If it has a microphone, it is listening

I believe the "probably" can be upgraded. Our Brother in Christ is definitely getting fricked over.

We know it's listening and almost certainly making product and other recommendations based on what it's hearing. Which I'm fine with given the value it provides. But if I find out the N Koreans are listening in I'm gonna be so pissed.

I prefer a proper British voice, either male or female, when I speak to any AI bot.

Same here. I want a British female or Southern female like Kyra Sedgwick.

It’d be funny to have a bossy kween…”it’s 45 degrees out dere, baby, and raining its arse off. frick you wanna go out fa?”

I like it.

I've been digging some of the home automation stuff, it's pretty fun.

My iphone, ipad and tv were already spying on me anyway, so it's whatevs.

We’ve had that setup for years. This new voice and AI is just over the top.

I only have had the alexa plus, so I don't have anything to compare it to... but it is kinda funny and kinda creepy when she whispers to me to have sweet dreams when I tell her to turn off the bedroom light.

Legitimately curious here.

You gotta be insane to put one of these Alexa type things in your house. Already believe my phone is listening to me.

I have the one with a screen, here's what I like:
1) recipes... if you lookmup a recipe on the web, you usually get an aids riddled website with a back story and a thousand clicky ads. Alexa just gives the exact recipe, no more, no less.

2) I can "drop in" and see my dog when I'm away- very entertaining to mess with her.

3) I like saying "Alexa, set the upstairs thermostat to 67°" instead of having to go up there.

4) Alexa makes my robovac run with a simple "run eufy" command.

5) She can play games with you.

6) you see something on the tv and want to know more, its faster to ask alexa than to google. I wanted to know what else an actor had been in, it was a quick answer.

7) you can integrate your family's activities calendars and get reminders pretty easy.

Primary uses in my house are adding items to shopping list as we cook or using as an intercom to get attention of wife is on the otherside of the house. Comes in clutch when changing the baby
