Dan Orlovsky acting as Ty Simpson’s agent

Dan is repped by the same agency as Ty Simpson, and recently he’s been starting a campaign about how actually Ty is the best QB in this class… and now as it seems Ty is likely not going to be taken in the fist RD and more likely to be taken early on day 2, he’s campaigning about how actually it’s much more smart to get that 5th year in rd 1. This is why ESPN has cratered from what it used to be… it’s all agenda driven.
“There’s a ton of time left on young careers—but as we sit here today, I would bet the Giants are very happy they got back into round 1 to get Dart and the Saints had wish they did that for Shough.
Having the 5th year option is huge at QB.”

This was obvious from ANYTHING Kiper puts out and has been for years. From his free agency rankings to his mock drafts to anything he does where he ranks or talks about player, it's all about which agents are throwing to most his way to upsell his clients.
Iirc it was maybe around 2015 someone looked at his free agency rankings and immediately noticed a pattern and spelled it out by showing which players were repped by different agencies. I think even his number one ranked player went against EVERY other free agency ranking list that year.

You’re several days late on this regurgitated talking point you got from the mcafee show.
Just because they have the same agent doesn’t mean he’s deliberately selling himself. Unintentionally possible

Only thing is it's been proven time and again these guys do upsell people they share an agent with or agents they are "in good with". It's clear as day what many (not all) of the talking heads are doing, and it's most rampant around draft time.

Sanders must have backed up the Brinks truck to Kiper's house then.

maybe but it's not uncommon in a weak QB draft for media/scouts to squint their eyes and see something that isn't there to boost a guy. shite, NFL GMs do it yearly. So, is it really fair to say Dan's entire opinion is bought and paid for?
I don't think Mendoza is such an elite prospect that the mere notion of someone potentially being better is all that controversial. I'm not even convinced he's going to be more than an average NFL starter, so I wouldn't be floored if Simpson were drafted into a better situation and ended up being more successful
If he were saying "I believe simpson is best QB prospect to come out in the last 5 years" well yeah, then he's either fishing for clicks or has an agenda

FWIW, McShay has said that Simpson’s tape is better and he’s making NFL reads and throws whereas Mendoza is running more RPOs and quick reads.
He said Simpson just doesn’t have the number of starts you like to see from a first rounder and Mendoza has shined in the big moments.
So it’s not that far fetched of a hot take… Although I fully think Orlovsky is making a hot take for people to talk about.

I agree that it is not fair, and to his credit Dan was the first one I saw that mentioned they share the same agency. With that said, there is the potential for some unbiased push; and given the market that he works, it brings the level of skepticism to the next phase.
With that said, Dan has also been pretty good with his QB predictions:
2025: He was skeptical of Shedeur and the hype last year, do not see where he claimed anyone to be "the best".
2024: Thought Caleb was the best, but was really high on Jayden
2023: Was a big fan of Stroud
2022: Did not like the class and said Pickett was the best; everyone missed Purdy
2021 & 2020 were the TLaw & Burrow classes; everyone got those right

Why I was shocked Simpson left early. I said during the year if he stayed another year he was a slam dunk top pick after those extra starts, and it likely would have set him up better for his pro career.

I listened to McShay talk about QB’s. He said that if you just watched the first 8 games then you would think Ty was the best QB in the draft and that Mendoza was not a first rounder. But, in Ty’s last 7 games he had lots of flaws become evident. Against the best defenses he was exposed. Mendoza was the opposite. His last 8 games, he played his best ball. Against the best competition, he shined. He played great against Ohio State ( w 3-4 projected 1st rounders this year and a pro def coordinator) and Miami (also multiple draft able def players).
Orlovsky said in his eval that he only looked at Ty’s first 8 games. Why?!? He came to his conclusion off of incomplete data. I assume to create buzz

I really don't know Dan's rep enough to say he is or isn't shilling, but it would not shock me to learn he is.

You don't completely ignore the bad games and then say this guy might be the best. Bad games is where you learn the most about these players, how they respond, if they keep pushing through or fold.

Idiot. Maybe you could say him saying Simpson is the best QB… but now campaigning to get him in the first… cmon. It’s obvious

it does happen but are we also over valuing that? Do we believe NFL FO execs are really influenced by anyone in the media's takes? What's the real benefit for Dan to possibly ruin his career by giving a nominal push to Simpson in order to help out his agent?
Now I think they do use the media to get the schefter's of the world to report things like "I'm told simpson is rapidly ascending up draft boards after speaking with multiple FO personnel" but that's different than simply giving an evaluation of a propect

Because most people weren't even talking about Simpson, and now this guy is trying to highlight all the things he does well (while seemingly ignoring his bad games) to try one last hard sell for teams on the fence about him to maybe look and say, "You know, he does do this better than maybe we thought he did" or some shite like that.
You can claim all you want that the media doesn't influence teams, but there is a reason teams leak both true and false shite to the media to muddy the waters and change perception of things. That's the same when agents are desperate to get their client moving up the boards to try to get people just talking about them and pointing out good things to try and influence perception.

He was highly thought of enough to be added to the Manning QB award watch list by mid season.

Now, a few weeks before the draft, you have someone trying to drum up buzz for him again that used only the first half of last season as his talking points, and he just so happens to share an agent. You don't even need to connect the dots when it's literally drawn out.
