I have one in mind given its Storm chasing season.

What if you put on a helmet along with other safety gear, and wore a go pro type body camera, and ran directly into a tornado. On foot. How close would you get? Could or would anyone do it? Would you do it for some amount of monetary compensation? I’m honestly surprised this has never been attempted.

Telling my wife she looks like she gained weight.

Will take your tornado track meet in heartbeat, comparatively speaking.

If you are wearing safety equipment to protect head and body from flying debris you definitely are not dying in anything F3 and under

Yeah man, the unstoppable force of nature that turns neighborhoods to toothpicks can't hurt you if you've tied pillows to yourself and strapped on an old football helmet.

I’m talking professional safety gear. Bullet proof vest etc. To be as safe as possible,

You act like everyone that is in their house, who almost are never wearing safety gear and have stuff flying around them dies. Very few do and nearly all survive.

This stunt is possible. It’ll just take the right person and gear to attempt it. The most difficult part isn’t the safety aspect, it’s the physical ability to still move on your feet without getting knocked down or rolled by the forces of the wind.

A compromise to this stunt would be to lay in a ditch and film as Tornado passes over you. That is easily possible and to do it safely. Even tornado safety protocol says to get in a ditch if no other shelter

April 3, 1974 a guy my Pops worked with left their mobile home to seek their last resort shot at safety, the ditch in front of their place. A tornado went almost directly over them. He was physically okay but for some scrapes and bruises. She lifted her head to look up and was struck by a piece of plywood with metal roofing attached, partially decapitating her. He saw her drop, but didn't know the extent of what happened until things settled down and he was able to get her rolled over. She was dead, of course.

You will likely be impaled or torn to bits before you ever reach "the tornado", assuming you aren't swept off of your feet by the wind and lofted first.

Taking off may be easy (if your limbs aren't immediately ripped off), but the landing will be a bitch.

I'm sure it will be fine!

From AI using your exact prompt:

Running directly into a tornado on foot, even with a helmet, body camera, and protective gear, would almost certainly be fatal, or result in severe injuries, due to the high-speed debris and violent wind forces. While GoPro cameras have been sent into tornadoes by drones or armored vehicles, the human body cannot withstand the forces of a direct interception.
Here is a breakdown of what would happen and the answers to your questions:
How Close Could You Get?
Inflow Winds: You would likely be knocked down or picked up by the wind long before you reached the center.
Weak Tornado (EF0-EF1): You might stand for a few seconds but would struggle to move and likely be knocked down/rolled.
Strong Tornado (EF2+): You would be thrown dozens to hundreds of meters, or in the case of a violent tornado (EF4-EF5), potentially kilometers, making close-range, on-foot "entry" impossible.
The Danger of Debris: The primary threat is not the wind itself, but being pelted by debris (wood, metal, rocks) moving at high speeds, which can destroy cars and buildings.
