That last line is amazing.
No one is foolish enough to give it to them, def an underhanded comment made against progressives who are foolish enough to pay out.

This is more when the war between the US and Muslims started.
quote:
When the United States lost British protection after the American Revolution, its ships were targeted, leading to the First (1801-1805) and Second (1815-1816) Barbary Wars, which reduced the pirate threat.
quote:
They attacked European and American merchant ships and raided coastal towns to capture, ransom, or sell over a million people into slavery, frequently demanding tribute from nations to ensure safe passage.

They would, even if it meant taxing "the rich" 100% of earnings. It would make them feel so proud of themselves.

Let’s subtract out all the welfare paid out since the Civll Rights Act first. Wonder what the net result would be?

I would immediately identify as black so I could take part in the reparations.

My Irish ancestors immigrated and came to the coal mines of Appalachia. If you know your history about that era, you know what I'm getting at.
As far as i can tell, my direct ancestors pretty much stayed in the WNC, WV and eastern TN/KY regions as opposed to moving farther west to farm sheep in MT and ID. They weren't treated nicely, no matter where they landed.
I still wouldn't demand reparations for crap that happened hundreds of years ago. That's the absolute pinnacle of stupidity and holding onto the past. This nation is nowhere near an even remote reflection of what we used to be.

Those demanding reparations in the US use a very purposefully narrow distinction for reparations: only blacks enslaved by whites in the US.
With that, they purposely ignore black slave owners in the US, that most of the black slaves were captured and sold by other blacks in Africa, that whites were enslaved by blacks in Africa and Middle Easterners, that blacks were enslaved by American Indians, that blacks are still enslaved today in parts of Africa (by other blacks), etc.
That's how you know it's just a money-grabbing scam.

Irish orphaned children were basically enslaved throughout this country from the 1840's-1860's. Their parents died in the potato famine and they were put on boats and shipped to America because there was literally no food to give them in Ireland. When they got here, they were pretty much auctioned off to farmers throughout the north and Midwest as cheap slave labor. Most of the time, they weren't treated very well. But, that doesn't fit the narrative of "white people aren't victims".
We all should be thankful we're living in the 21st century! Life was fricking brutal 100+ years ago.
Advancements in agriculture and medicine has greatly improved the human experience.

quote:In the Barbary Slave Trade between 1 million and 1.25 million Europeans were captured and enslaved by Barbary corsairs (from North Africa) between 1530 and 1780.
That last line is amazing.
In the US about 388,000 to 400,000 Africans were were captured and enslaved mainly by other Africans, then sold to European or US traders who brought them to North America during the Atlantic Slave Trade.
I did not realize the Barbary Slave Trade exceeded the US slave trade 3-fold.

There was a BBC writer who did a segment. Typical liberal. His mom was some UN rep, white, and his father some African "diplomat". Had a fling and left the woman with this guy. He grows up with this dream of finding his roots. His father had passed away but he returns to the village where his grandfather lives.
He is sitting on the porch discussing the injustices of the slave trade and how it affected so many lives. Ole grandfather says "Son you do realize we are descendants of Babatu. If there were reparations, you would have to pay
So now his great great grandfather is no longer a slave trader but......a misguided businessman.

My response was not directed to you. It was about "progressives". Are you smart enough to know the difference?

I don’t believe a word of that.
I spend too much time on X pointing out the absolute lack of liberals speaking out about ANYTHING that makes rational people look at liberals in a bad light.

The slaves from Ireland were treated harsher because they were cheap compared to the slaves from Africa that had to be bought.

Something tells me that is by design (the politicalization of the us education system).
