DOJ subpoenas flying in probe of Paramount-Skydance's eye-watering $110B bid to swallow Warner Bros Discovery.
Reuters dropping this bombshell feds sniffing around potential antitrust red flags in Hollywood's mega-merger mania.

Quick facts: Skydance (David Ellison's crew) + Paramount eyeing WBD's assets amid streaming wars. Warner's been bleeding (Max subs flatlining, debt mountain at $40B+).
DOJ's not playing remember their Microsoft-Activision block?
This could reshape Tinseltown.

Bull case: Consolidated power crushes Netflix/Disney duopoly, pumps content firepower.
Bear: Regulators slam brakes on monopoly vibes, deal craters like AT&T-Time Warner drama.

I could understand investigating a merger that would affect food supply, manufacturing, utilities, etc.

An entertainment company probably shouldn't be the highest priority when we have bigger fish to fry.

Money is money. Too much consolidation of industry is bad domestically.

Also not just entertainment but media. Diverse media is an interesting point of discussion if you’re into mitigating propaganda.

Entertainment shapes culture. If a few hold the power and choose to pump out gay and tranny filth, then you could end up with an entire generation that identifies as abnormal at 10x the rate, like Gen Z.

There's basically 5 or 6 companies that control the entire entertainment/media industry. That's too much power in a few hands, just like with tech. We saw how censorship was going before Elon and Trump 47.

I listened to a bbc program regarding South Korea and govt investments. Many years ago they spent a tremendous amount of money on entertainment industries and many thought it could be put to better use. But their thought was if they could make South Korea "cool" then south Korean goods would become acceptable, even sought after internationally.

To move the mindset of the category of "cheap throw away chinese goods" to quality manufactured japanese goods.

So along came the Kpop boy bands, korean movies, etc. Those young adults consuming that content are now mid range wealthy consumers gobbling up samsung, LG, hyundais and kias.

So basically Deadliest Catch leaves HBO Max and moves to Paramount+ App next to Star Trek and Top Gun movies?

Are you implying this already happened? Because I think this already happened.

It blew my mind that Trump was banned from Twitter. Never thought it would get that bold.

Hollywood has done it to itself. Snow White production costs were nearly 350million, thats just production costs (the original cost 1.5million).

I know that was in the 30s and drawings. But how on earth can you do a localized set with no audacious stunts and justify that nonsense. Thats the cost side.

Then on the marketing size you alienate your entire audience via the bud light strategy.

Whatever happened to developing characters and a plot? Give me a Columbo rerun......and just one more thing sir.......
