Get out of its own way with archaic black out rules? Tried to get the Royals game on MLB.TV by doing the free trial. Open game, sorry, blacked out in your area. The game is in Atlanta! I live in Missouri, wth?

So much for paying 199.00, I’ll just do without.

Sadly, it's a waste of money anyways. I'll only watch free games this year be it MLB, CFB or NFL.

MLB.TV has an add on you can my pay for this year for your blacked out team.

I'm a Reds fan, and I live in Lexington, which is 90 miles from Cincinnati, ergo they are blacked out. I paid for Reds.TV and MLB.TV and I now have every game on the app.

Yes, before someone chimes in about the free online streams, I have the sites and still use them. Its just simpler on the app for me, and honestly I love listening to the radio broadcast synced up with the TV broadcast feature enough that I want to pay for it.

No, and they still don’t understand who their stars are. I see more from MLB about Jazz Chisholm than your own Bobby Witt.

I loved thay feature when I used MLB.tv. Really helps you appreciate the additional work the radio guys do by painting the picture the TV guys don't have to do.

mlb.tv has ALWAYS blacked out your home area team. you live in missouri. I'm sure the royals and cardinals are blacked out...maybe even the cubs.

I remember when I lived in memphis I couldn't watch cardinals, royals, cubs, reds, white sox or Braves.

No thanks, 199 is more than enough. If it’s not enough for them, then so be it.

I thought blackout rules only applied to home games.

Why would they blackout away games?

Because the game is an away game.

The reason blackout rules exist is to entice the home team fans to buy tickets. The blackout is lifted once the game becomes a sellout (or at least 85% tickets sold 72 hours before kickoff).

What does blacking out an away game accomplish? MOST fans do not attend away games, so there is no incentive to blackout away games.

That is how the NFL blackout rules work. Not sure why MLB would be different.

you are confusing the original reason why teams didnt want to put their games on TV way the frick back when this was all getting started decades ago with the modern reasoning behing blackouts of regional sports networks, which itself is currently changing due to whole model imploding on itself

take OP out of this because hes complaining about something that doesnt even apply to him anymore

but if you are spectrum (technially charter i guess), and you just paid just under 8.5bn dollars to the Dodgers to put all 162 games on TV for the next quarter century, you are doing so because you expect to then sell your production of those games to dish, and directv, and xfinity, etc and hopefully make 10+bn over those years. those cable providers will make that purchase from spectrum because they can then increase the price of their cable subcriptions to people who live across southern caliornia because they know that is probably where the largest portion of the dodger fanbase lives and since live sports is basically the last thing people will actually reliably pay cable tv for, cable companies base their entire business around having these packages and putting major premiums on their pricing for them

so, if MLB were to then go behind all of these companies, tell people in southern california that they could tell their cable companies to frick off and buy a package that costs about 12 bucks a month and get to watch every single dodger game of the season.....you can see the issue

I didn’t actually pay it, I did the free trial and cancelled when I found out the games would be blacked out

I find it hilarious that people seem to be ok with paying a fee and still not getting the games.

I don't think anyone in the world except people on the team watch 162 mlb baseball games of a team per year. Its preposterous. Everyone is still pretty much in playoff contention for another 2-3 months
