Additionally, the 43% of Americans who worried the nation faced a critical energy shortage in the next five years was lower than during other periods of high gas prices.
The poll offers a glimpse of American sentiment during the early stages of the war. Gallup noted that the survey began two days after the United States and Israel went to war with Iran. Over the past month, the cost of gas has risen approximately one dollar per gallon and much of the shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has been disrupted.

People complain about gas prices but gas remains cheap relative to everything else
Gas prices have not kept up with inflation the last 30 years other than occasional spikes like we are currently having

The overall cost per barrel of oil, whether domestic or international barrels, increase because it's a globally traded commodity. If countries and/or refineries who are dependent on imports can't get the Saudi/UAE based crude, then they're going to pay a premium to supplement and outbid others for the Brent and WTI crudes.

Even if the war is somehow brought to a swift end, the destruction of energy infrastructure and the lag-time in some industrials will have an impact for at least an intermediate duration. I’m just glad I had a little sleeve of commodities, because everything else I have is, obviously, not doing that great.

Oil was over $100/bbl for SEVEN MONTHS under Biden and we magically survived.
We aren't yet even three weeks into it this time around, all the Chicken Littles need to settle down.
Once this wraps up (my guess is no later than the end of May), prices will drop like a rock again.

This just seems very political.
It seems the people who now have little problem with rising gas prices were pitching fits when it happened under the previous administration.

This may be true for individuals but it’s still painful for businesses.
My farm has 31 diesel tractors, 10 pickup trucks, 24 125kw or larger backup generators with a 500 gal diesel tank on each. I use 250,000 dollars of electricity annually. Those rates can go up due to rising natural gas prices. I use 1000 gallons of gas a month, 1500 in diesel a month. Shipping rates have increased on feed deliveries and to ship fish to the processor. Feed prices have gone up because the mills use natural gas in their driers along with increased shipping rates to get the feed ingredients to the mill by rail or truck.
shite really adds up fast and there’s nothing to do but eat the cost and I have no say in the sale price of my fish to the processor so I can’t raise prices to cover it

The problem is there's not much indication at this point that this is going to wrap up soon and feels a lot more like our recent forays into the Middle East. Especially with the military raising the max age (which they typically do when they're running out of soldiers).
