Nothing was ever said. What was the possible scenerio? Is it safe to assume he was quietly asked to step away or an agreement quickly made on a buyout number?

Come on "sauce people" what was the story.

Not much needs to be said with his record.

He’s probably already gone. It did not take a genius to know that he wouldn’t be returning. I am sure he feels quite a sense of relief.

Still can’t give up?

Take the walk of shame.

TD is going to be awesome for a few days.

Now that Wade is coming, what was the exit approach on MM?

I think it went like this:

"Coach, can we speak with you a moment. First of all, we're gonna let you go. Second off, here's $8 million dollars if that helps. Good luck to you in the future..."

It doesn’t take a high IQ to know what happened.

LSU to McMahon - Thank you for your service here at LSU. We appreciate your efforts. However, we are going in a different direction. Here’s your severance package, we wish you all the best.

I'd imagine it would have been something like "We are going after Will Wade. If we get him, we will pay your buyout and release you from your contract. If not, we will retain you for 1 more year and barring a massive improvement we will conduct a nation wide search."

It wasn't really a secret that we were all in for Wade or bust this time around. I do believe that if Wade turned us down we would have waited a year for the buyout to drop to do a big coaching search.

This is accurate. Fans don't realize that we were pretty close to having MM back next year.

The conversation I assume from the AD was "we would like you to stay. But there are powerful people outside of us who want Wade. If he agrees to come here we will have to let you go. If not, you will be our HC next season." Contrary to what some might think, Verge wasn't in charge of the Wade pursuit, nor was his opinion really considered. He was basically told to hire Wade (if Wade wants to come). If not, LSU would find a new AD.

MM wasn't going to leave for another major conf. school because he had no market for another major conf. job. He wasn't going to quit to go to a mid-major program because anything the mid-major would pay would be FAR less than his LSU buyout. Basically, his best option was just sitting quiet and waiting to see how the Wade pursuit shook out. Once Wade agreed to come, MM was formally told he was out.

It would be a bit silly for LSU to pay a lump sum buyout right now...even if lesser than the ultimate total. There is an offset clause and MM is 47. He's probably going to want to continue coaching. Just let him do so, offset the buyout, and pay the note over three years.

well they hadn't said anything even before Wade was coming people only knew he was still the coach by default. Also not saying anything to the press is odd. Its like they just left out he was already fired or they were waiting to see what Wade would do?

That's EXACTLY what was going on. It was Wade or no one else. If Wade had turned down the offer McMahon would still be the HC. Would it be odd to remain the HC when your employer very openly worked to replace you? Sure. But McMahon had no other option. There was no school that would pay him anywhere close to what LSU would pay him to coach next year or fire him.

That’s 100% false. You literally posted that Wade wasn’t a good coach for the NIL era.
