So will LSU pay the $5 Million buyout instead of $3 million

Doubtful. Probably somewhere in the middle. They had a negotiation with NC State so they could both move forward

doubtful. I'm sure it was in everyones best interest to just let LSU pay the $3 million instead of waiting a week.
LSU would be dumb to pay a cent more than $3 million, and NC State would be dumb to not just let him go a week early so they can start their coaching search.

They could have started the coaching search immediately. Did lsu wait to fire McMahon before looking? Most ads already has a plan in place for a situation like this

true, but even with that, LSU is dumb to pay an extra $1-$2 million dollars to have a coach 1 week early. Just wait and use that money on the roster. Hopefully those reports are not true.

Yeah, but the difference is that NC State didn't want to fire Wade. LSU was ready to fire McMahon.
NCSU wouldn't be able to offer a candidate a contract yet until the Wade to LSU deal was official. Just in case something happened that derailed Wade to LSU at the last minute.
