I know it's not manly. My son found a cocoon last summer and it has been sitting on the window sill since then. I saw it from time to time blowing around patio. Walked out about an hour ago and the biggest freaking moth I've ever seen was coming out of it. It's a cecropia moth. The largest moth in North America

I'm just sitting here watching nature work. His wings have unfurled from about an inch to probably 4 inches long.

Supposedly they are rare to see cause they only live for two weeks. They don't even have a mouth to eat.

Fun fact.

They can detect a mate up to a mile away by pheromones in air. But their is a spider who will mimic pheromones and eat moth when it shows up

I have a moth sheet out tonight.
I started mounting them and butterflies the past few years. But too a lesser degree lately

That green caterpillar turns into a Regal moth that’s orange and yellow. It’s a silk moth too that won’t live but a week like the Cecropia.

Same as luna and Imperial moth. I've seen an Imperial most recently a couple years back. Haven't seen a luna moth in years.
