I have found that I had substantial amounts in the past. The first time I checked, I found a utility deposit from 40 years ago when I was at lsu.

I posted a similar thread a year or so ago and was pleased to see several people get thousands of dollars as a result

I've started the process multiple times in the past, but never fill the form out and mail it

I did this for GA and it looks like there is something there in my name btu it doesn't let you actually view it. You have to add it to cart then presumably create a login and start a claim, but before I do all that I'd at least like to know wtf it is. Is that normal for all states?

Yes….most states tell you whether it is over/under $100, but most don’t give specifics until you claim.

gotcha thanks. This appears legit on the face of it..is there any downside to starting the claim? Or will I get hounded by even more spam calls and texts if I do?

You don’t have to mail anything. I just received this email after filing my claim online. It only took a couple of minutes to file my claim.

Not at all…I have had no further contact after my check was sent. No reason at all not to get any money they owe you.

I had a law firm contact me around June of last year telling me they had found some unclaimed property. I had checked the secretary of state website in Georgia years ago and found a couple of less than $50 items and never followed up on it. I figured that's what they were calling about so I told them I wasn't interested. Out of curiosity I checked the SOS website after they called and there were those 2 - $50 "claims" and 3 more that totaled over $13k. I never believed it for a moment but, it being the sec of state website, I figured the worst that could happen is I'd waste some time filling out the claims. Took about half an hour. Got a letter a few weeks later asking for documentation and tossed it in the trash. 6 weeks after that, went to the mailbox, and lo and behold there's a check from the sec of state office for a little under $14k total! Still thinking it was a scam I took it to the bank and showed the branch manager...and was dumbfounded to find that no, it was 100% legit. I still have no idea how this money was "lost"...some of it was associated with a citi bank credit card but for the life of me I couldn't tell anyone what or why. Some of it was from an insurance carrier who I supposedly had a workers comp policy with but it was not an insurance company I remember ever doing business with. I have checked New Mexico, South Carolina and Washington State since then and have received about $1000 total from those 3 states. I have no idea where the money came from.....

Search unclaimed property in Georgia….you wouldn’t want to trust a link.
