Looking for a well cushioned brown leather mens shoe that can be worn all day sightseeing (often in shorts) when traveling and then also be worn to dinner with slacks at a nice restaurant. Am partial to Rockport due to fit and comfort but also looking at Ecco Track 25. Any other suggestions?

Cole Hahn Oxfords or similar can dress up or down and are comfy.

Your definition of nice restaurant and also how much you care to look nice is really going to be important. Personally, and I rarely leave the house with anything less than a polo type shirt (usually golf type polo) I could care less anymore about looking perfectly proper. Especially on vacation outside of work trips, as I usually pack light.

Getting away from bright colors and white, so browns, blacks, and tans really helps with mens shoes imo. I'll generally bring a pair of brown casual shoes or walking shoes. SOmething like these, these are Allen Edmonds so a little pricier but just the general idea.

My wife always likes to say "good design evokes emotion". So most recommendations are generally going to be very polarizing

hiking boots…a well fitting pair that’s broken in. I’m partial to saloman but there’s plenty others. They are designed for long distance walking which is what you are doing.

Plus they are generally presentable with a pair of travel pants (prana stretch Zion is what I wear)

I need to wear them to a 2 star Michelin with a blazer and slacks but also be able to wear them with shorts as I walk around a European city. And not annoy my insertional achilles tendonitis do they need to be supportive.

The only shoe I will wear with slacks and shorts are sneakers. Yes, I agree, too casual for slacks but the day I start wearing dress shoes I consider casual because they're comfrtable, take me behind the barn and end it.

That being said, my travel shoe that I wear with shorts and to dinner (with jeans) are Tree Runners from All Birds. With slacks or a suit, I am wearing cowboy boots or dress shoes.

Check out some of the Josef Seibel stuff out there. Their shoes are really comfortable, and many bridge the gap of comfort and formality very well.

I like to pack as light as possible, because I usually have to carry all my wife's stuff too.

I would never wear them in brown BUT if given the option of brown leather shoes or NIke J's / Dunks / Vision, etc in neutral colors or white with shorts, I am taking the sneakers every single time.

I’d side with something similar to your suggestion.

I have some Thursday Encores in all white that are super comfortable and would be what I would bring, but they don’t have a brown leather option in that model.

They do have this Vista in the color Cuero that looks pretty good though

I walked around Buenos Aires a bunch wearing these recently:

They have them in different colors

Honestly though, nothing beats On Clouds for walking on pavement all day long in my experience. But they are sneakers obviously.

I also have a pair of these that are comfortable, Only problem is the white sole will get dirty in a city:

Just got back from an extended trip to Europe. My "day to day" for walking around are Salomon Ultraglide 2 GTX. Great grip. Waterproof. For comfort, I also take Allbird Runners to go out to dinner etc.

But, based upon your post, I'd go:

ECCO Soft 7 in brown leather.
