Are the depression meds being snorted? If not I’m not sure they’re bad.

Drinking is probably the worst. Smoking is also pretty bad for you. I'd probably put them as collectively worse than depression meds. I've been on depression meds before though and that also sucks overall.

All are bad as well as most Southern diets of fried food, smoked meats, processed meats, high butter/cream content foods

Are you asking which is worse to quit, or which is worse for your health?

Depression meds, sleepin meds, drinking, and the electric lettuce are a horrible combination.

During covid when I was diagnosed with some gnarly mental health issues that I deal with to this day, I was easily drinking 12 beers a night, hitting the one hitter a couple times, and then chasing all of that with sertraline and 25mg of clonapin to fall asleep.

I was lucky and made it through but not without a few scars. Many in my boat did not. I think I know where this thread is going but for those with actual struggles its an all too common russian roulette thing to deal with.

Drinking isn't good for you but it does dull the senses. Sometimes thats all you need if you are way too up or struggle with Bi-polar or PTSD. Not drinking, exercise, plenty of sleep and med management is the absolute best but this is the real world and some don't have that kind of time or discipline or other things get in the way. Rexulti works well but if you have shite insurance or even good insurance you are looking at $400 a month. Not good.

Not sleeping leads to more depression/issues but dependency on stuff like trazodone and ambien sucks arse also. trying taking that shite for a year and then sleeping without it. But you weren't sleeping before either. it sucks.

Pot is actually horrendous for you if you do have mental health issues and yet i think flying away to never never land is an ok escape every now and then. Just not all the time.

now, mushrooms? Provided you can take a break from your regularly scheduled mental health meds this is the way. At least it has been for me when I REALLY struggle. Its the one thing I wish would gain a little more main stream traction. Its getting there, but you cant even buy it in Colorado legally so there you go. Microdosing when you are in a low depression or down cycle with BP2 really helps. More than anything else I have ever tried, anyway. Schedule 35 has been a Godsend for me.

Happy to talk to anyone about any of this. shite is scary and if it were cancer people would be lined up around the block to fluff your pillow. Mental Health issues though. Woo boy. Might as well be the 80's and you have aids with dirty needles sticking out of your arm. Even Dr Fauci wouldn't help your arse back then. So yeah. Im a little passionate about this.

Being an alcoholic is probably worse than being a smoker, but being a casual drinker is nowhere close to being as bad as being a smoker - from the health issues to the social stigma to the personal hygiene effects.

I was a 1/5th a day drinker (well when I was off as I worked 24 hr shifts) for a decade. I also smoked 1-2 packs a day back then, also got somewhat addicted to Xanax at the time. I don’t know what was worse, I thought Xanax or drinking would be the hardest to quit but smoking was. Hell I just went to dipping and still dip a roll a week. I now have a handful of drinks a year.

I would think health wise smoking would be the worse. Mentally I only know about Xanax when it comes to pills, but that was brutal to me mentally. Issue with alcohol, if drinking a lot, can really make you feel ashamed the next day. I know some folks who seem happy with a beer or 2, or whiskey drink daily, I don’t think that’s bad. Knocking back a 1/5th every night is brutal.

Lots of options out there if you want to cut back. Doesn't have to happen cold turkey. Just make the choice. Many on this board have done so with great effect. I'm sure they would all happily share how they did it too.

Praying you find what works for you, if that is what you want. Truly.

It’s hard as frick. I drank for 35 years and never thought I could give it up. 13 months no booze. The worst feeling about quitting is realizing that I should’ve done it a long time ago. You can do it you just have to stay strong. It’s worth it times infinity!

This is a weird thread. Alcohol is a fricking depressant. If you’re depressed, alcohol will just compound it. There’s a reason why people tell you to stop drinking when you go on meds.

Now as to medication, everyone is different. I have sky high anxiety. The only thing is if I stop taking my meds, I become a raging a-hole. And I am more stoic. No emotional rollercoaster

I can't even imagine this. How did you get to that point?

Doing heroin every day makes more logical sense to me than drinking a fifth of whisky.

Drinking in moderation is fine.

Smoking probably would be too, but I've never met a smoker that smokes in moderation.

Depression meds, used very short-term, can be very beneficial. Using them long-term, they lose their effectiveness and are very unhealthy.

Fire service, went to shite after working 2 entire families killed in car wrecks within a month of each other. Kept strong as could at work but quit sleeping at home and then essentially at work. I would stay up for 2-3 days no sleep and then crash for a day. Took many sleeping pills issued by doctor and none helped. Started drinking more to sleep, made my mind stop racing. Progressively got worse from there. Went to a pint, and later a 1/5th.
