Washing Machine Recommendations

Recently bought a house and the owners left the washer and dryer. Washer is a front loader but has mold all over the gasket. I tried cleaning but gave up and decided to replace since it’s so much.
I’m purchasing a new top loader to replace it and looking at LG but can’t decide between the agitator or impeller models. They’re both highly rated.

Any recommendations?

At this point just pin Spee Queen to the top of the board

I get that but I have no desire to spend $1500 on a washer. I’m more so curious about the agitator vs impeller designs.

I hear that..I got cheap and simple. Less bells and whistles and available parts and YouTube videos are the features I desire

Ive got a whirlpool that I got in 2015. I just go to the appliance parts store or Amazon to repair it. No bells and whistles at all

The one you’re looking at is $850. I just bought a Speed Queen TR7 for $1250. That difference is worth it just for the 7 year warranty.
Most amazing thing is it actually washes my clothes. I had an LG that was highly rated by CR, but clothes on top would still be dry at the end of the cycle and come out with soap residue.

It’s also only 3.2 cubic feet. The LG’s are 5+. Where did you find it for $1250 though?

I'd avoid impeller designs unless you do small amounts of clothes at a time. They tend to strive for efficiency which means less effective. You need to use less soap with them, because they use the minimum amount of water to soak the clothes. If you watch one work you'll be amazed at how little water they use.
If you use too much soap with a modern efficient washing machine you'll also reduce its life by gunking everything up and burning up parts that are a real pain in the arse to get to.

Not sure where you’re located, but I got mine at Bon Marche on the Westbank. Best price I could find.

Replacing the gasket is a little bit of a pain, but if that's the only issue you might want to look into replacing just the gasket. I replaced mine on my 15 yr old washer and it felt brand new after.

Trust me you will buy at least two whirlpools rather than one speed queen. Yes it hurts but I have drank the kool aid.

Try Brandons in Amite he services what he sells and he delivers all over...Just saying he's worth the call . Rather give my money to someone like him instead of HD or Lowes....

Research your machines online before purchase. I bought a cheaper Amana combo a few years ago and the control board crapped out on the washer. Never again.

I have had a Maytag for the past 19 years and not a bit of trouble out of it. Top loader with agitator and 4 knobs on the front…the only thing electric is the motor. When I need another, I’ll look for the same thing. Just search for Maytag and you’ll see several just like it.

Yeah the problem is all the new ones have loads of sensors and AI features that’ll just break and stop working.
Speed Queens are king but the washing volume is a lot smaller than the other brands. Gonna test my luck with an LG and pray for the best.

my rec: whirlpool/kenmore "king" sized (larger than super capacity plus) from mid 2000-2010 used in good shape and then thank me (and St. Napoleon) for the next 50 years when the odd repair every few years costs less than $20 and 30 minutes.

Just because it can fit 5cu feet don't mean you should. You'll blow out the suspension springs. Which the speed queen doesn't even have as it's solid frame.
