Honest question.

Surprised about what specifically?

They know they missed on these portal guys. This isn’t an Omaha team
Posted on 3/21/26 at 5:49 pm to Zachary
This team has given Jay PTSD.

Level of play, fundamentals

Correct, it’s yr to yr now kinda like juco baseball, never know what you got until games start in Feb

Yes. Based on how Jay spoke on the team coming into the season and in early games
We asked this last year too tho when there was a lull. Cause he was high on last years team too

Yeah i think so.
Curiel is better than this.
Dardar was a .300+ hitter in a legit conference last year
Yorke looks like he’s desperately trying to become a power hitter
Guys we thought we could lean on are blowing games.
In all of our losses guys we thought we could lean on caves
Evans last friday
Guidry last friday and in the start of the 8th today (that one is on jay)
Curiel this weekend left a ton of runs on the field

I think they’re probably surprised about some things. Considering the guy who Jay likes to put in as a defensive replacement seems to struggle to make routine plays, I’d say he’s a little surprised by stuff like that.

90% of the Rant said this was a 23-7 SEC team and anyone who dared to question was excoriated.
I said the SEC floor was 17 wins and am way off. This is a 12 or 13 win SEC team.

Imagine next season when
Stanni
Cureil
Milam
Brown
Are gone. The rest of the lineup is pretty weak for next season.
We will have
Evans
Smitty

They are professionals who have been around baseball for a long time. Baseball is a game that sometimes humbles even the most talented teams and players, but it also sometimes elevates the worst, well, at least the less talented.
So I doubt they are surprised, though they may be mystified as to what it will take to turn things around.

if JJ is so great how could he possibly have seasons way below expectations?
he gets all the accolades when they’re winning but it’s players fault when they’re trash

I think Jay learned a big lesson this year. Lower tier guys, even though may show huge numbers, are not sec caliber players. He tried finding some great value guys and got burned. Dunno how we stand with NIL compared to other schools but it seems like he tried very hard to build a team with a bunch of “division 2” type guys that showed out in their leagues and it’s not working out

JJ whiffed miserably in this years portal class. Considering his recruiting prowess an aberration is acceptable and we’ll pay the price this year by not making a regional.
