I was a youngin during his era, and always curious why it didn’t work out? He had the few CWS runs in a short time, interested to read you Baws perspective on him.

It fell of extremely quick and there was a crazy high standard. But it fell off hard fast.
I never thought I would get to this point where I’m the older guy now lol.

The worst uniforms you could ever imagine.

Smoke was not a small ball guy. He thought you swing away to score runs.

The Black & Purple hats were certainly a choice.. not one I’d have ever made

He wasn’t horrible by any means. But he wasn’t very good either. Him going 2 and a bbq at the CWS every time wasn’t going to cut it at LSU.

Lazy recruiting. Team was progressively worse every year. He was stubborn. Not an idiot coach, but thought LSU would recruit itself and he could just show up on game days. Typing this, feels like Brian Kelly.

To be fair, Skip brought in the black hats with purple brims.
Under Smoke, we went a step further and introduced the all black hats.

He was horrible.
He was responsible for our first ever regional failed advancement in the super regional era and responsible for our first missed postseason in over a decade... it was only trending down from there too.
Those crowds in April SEC games during the 06 season had me thinking LSU baseball was dead and buried.

I can't get the black jerseys and that garbage font out of my memory.

He was lazy. That pretty much describes Smoke's entire tenure which is why he didn't last. Yes, as someone above said very much like Brian Kelly. Arrogant, thinks he shite didn't stink, thinks he had to show up to do minimum on the job because LSU takes care of itself. He got bamboozled by that pretty quickly.

I had some friends that played under him at ULM. They all said he was a dick

Great players during his era just not the right sauce to win it all.
Oh and Black Jerseys with a couple 2 and Qs in the Series.
Not memorable overall

It’s hard to follow a legend
It’s harder when you are lazy
That was an era where other schools started to pay attention to baseball. Meanwhile our talent and recruiting fell off hard.

The uniforms were indeed horrible during that time and the gold was noticeably absent. LSU baseball had its share of really good players but like others said, the program overall went downhill quickly.

He had some good seasons that would have been great at most places but at a place like LSU and following a legend like Skip, it just wasn't going to cut it. We had some really good players and memorable moments that were fun to watch but just couldn't put it together to win the big one.

To be fair, you could do that back in the day.
