Of course every Werner Herzog movie is great but I especially liked this one. This is the English version.

Awhile ago. I honestly don’t remember much.

Then you should watch it again. I posted the English version in my op to make it easy for people to watch who haven't watched it.

I watched it once about 20 years ago. I remember enjoying it.

They made it for 370k, and it shows but great movie nonetheless. Werner Herzog is a genius. Really liked Stroszek too; according to AI:

quote:

Werner Herzog's 1977 film Stroszek was produced with a very low budget and famously written in only four days. While the exact dollar amount of the total budget is not explicitly detailed in the search results, it is described as a "non-Kinski masterpiece" made with a small crew and non-professional actors, indicating a minimalist production approach.

Yeah. Herzog can make the most out of nowhere scenes that just punch you in the gut.

That scene where the spaniard is forced to abandon his horse in a jungle where it clearly had nowhere to go... man. Interesting movie, for sure.

Yes! It looks like someone took a video camera back to the 16th century & recorded them which I thought was great.

Some critics didnt like it & he was criticized for it, but I thought Thomas Mauch & the cinematography were outstanding.

It was one of the reasons I started watching non-English speaking movies. So many people liking it on this board spurred me to watch it. I then realized if the movie is good, it's worth reading subtitles. I'll give most movies a watch now.

Love Herzog. This is a legitimately elite film. I need to watch it again, it’s been a while.

Like Fitzcarraldo, Aguirre not only shows the struggles of the main characters against nature, it highlights the production crew's struggle against nature during filming. It is one of the reasons that both movies are great.

Nothing else like it. This and Fitzcarraldo are just insanely good filmmaking.
