Just watched on Netflix. Very good doc showing the beginning of the band up until BSSM.
If you haven’t seen, check it out.

I don't know why I had always though Chad was the original drummer.
I knew John had replaced Hillel on guitar, but not Chad over the original drummer.

Jack Irons
uplift mofo party plan is the only album featuring all four original members, and the only album with irons
you probably know him best from pearl jam

Watched. Very good doc. I’m surprised they only lost one along the way. Hopefully these days they’ve settled down.

Never a fan, but that was a really good documentary. Always enjoy seeing how bands started, especially those from the 70s, my era,

very good doc. I was kinda surprised they never interviewed flea and kiedis together, maybe that was just the format they decided on but I would have liked to have seen the two of them talking about hillel.
I remember him dying but it seemed like they were right back with a new album quickly so the magnitude of losing two band members at the same time didn’t really register. I’ll say again if you haven’t listened to “uplift” lately or at all, it’s incredible
they really were two different bands, before and after. After was great but before was something completely unique

I enjoyed the doc. I knew some of the early history but this made it a lot more clear.
I can appreciate their roots and I think their live shows back then would have been insane and fun as hell. But I have a hard time getting into their stuff before John.

Always been a fan of RHCP and actually never new the story of the original guitarist OD'ing or that Anthony wasn't even really a band member early on. A good watch.
So. Much. Drugs. Good lord. You know you did a lot of drugs when FLEA is the sober one of the bunch
I always thought that Flea was the biggest druggie of the bunch but Hillel and Anthony were quite a bit worse early on.

Do yourself a favor and read Scar Tissue. It's one of my favorite books. It basically covers Anthony's life up until around the time of By The Way I think. After reading it, you'll wonder how he is still alive today with his out of control drug use through the up til the 90s, and seemingly has been sober for a long time.

Californication is the best IMO.

I agree that's how I remember it. I was a big fan back then and it did seem liked they jumped right back into it. I remember them playing Storyville Jazz Hall with Faith No More and 6 months later, Slovak died then within a few months, MTV news interviewed them about being on tour and it was a video of them with Peligro in drums and the Pfunk guitarist.

Jane's and RHCP were doing something completely different than the typical LA bands. Each had their own look and sound.
