Is today Evans’ last audition?

I have no idea one way or another but I saw a tweet and I’ve been thinking about it for 3 days and I know there are many more baseball knowledgable posters on tRant.
We’re almost halfway thru the season. Schmidt and Moore have looked solid behind him (considering the baseball we’ve played). Is this Evan’s last try to keep Friday (Thursday in some cases), or do you slide them around and try and gain a series advantage before getting to Sunday 0-2?
Oklahoma Isn’t some pushover so I do think this is Evans’ greatest test in accuracy, control, execution and composure. And he gets the benefit of doing it at the Box with the Tiger Faithful behind him. Hope the crowd shows up on a Thursday!

Its possible. There were really no changes that could be made this week, since Moore would have had to go saturday to Thursday, so it wasn't really realistic to happen.
I wouldn't be surprised, if he struggles, to see a move next weekend. But let's just hope he absolutely dominates today and we don't even have to consider it.

Who would we even replace him with if we removed him from the rotation?
Im not opposing the idea as I personally think Evans is meant to be a reliever/closer and struggled as a starter in limited opportunities last year. But I’m not sure if taking him out of the rotation is the solution.

I will side with Jay Johnson and the coaching staff who is around the players to make those decisions. Not some poster on TD. But that is just me.

That would be a sunday problem, and we have been in this spot before (including both national championship teams).
The move would be Moore on Friday, Scmidt on Saturday. If you need Evans to win one of those games, you use him. If you don't he starts sunday.

Not once did he question JJ's decision making. He is asking a legit question, worth discussing. There are hundreds of idiotic threads on here daily, this isn't one of them. No need to shite on the OP and act like he's doing something that he isn't doing.

No. Evans is a guy we have to have. He is adjusting to a new role. One team one heartbeat.

Yeah man let’s just not discuss anything since Jay Johnson doesn’t post here. These types of post on a message board are so fricking stupid.

I’m in the same boat.
My head jumps to Noot and Cowan, who both have had ups and downs. But if throwing Schmidt and Moore with Evans coming in for one or both gets you to 2-0, then you take that scenario and hope someone else can piece it together on Sunday

Doubt it. Thatcher Hurd was a weekend starter through the second SEC series in 2024 and he was far, far worse than Evans has been thus far. I also think people get too hung up on the days of the week each pitcher pitches. Evans hasn’t done enough to be taken out of a weekend starting role and we have no one else to put in his place either. So absent him falling off a cliff, don’t expect him to be taken out of the weekend starting rotation

That was an easier strategy last year when you had confidence Anderson and Eyanson would both give you quality starts every weekend. I don’t think you can say that about Schmidt and Moore yet.

Evans has the juice. Tbh experience tells me he got alittle overwhelmed last weekend. It was 1st real deal Friday start. He should grow into that role based on where he has been.

I think it depends more on the catching situation than anything. They want Serna to catch on Saturdays but if they feel he's most comfortable with Moore then it's not worth changing

If Evans struggles tonight, there really is no reason to let him start us off next week.

Amen. Evans is a pure dawg. You ride him.

Do we think he has lost what he had last season?
Or do we think he is struggling with being in the new role of being the front guy, which suggests the struggle is primarily mental, and will likely pull out of it with one stellar outing?
The answer to those two dictates the answer to your question. I think he gets there tonight!

You must not remember last year very well. Eyanson took quite a while before you had confidence he would give you a quality start. It was Anderson, and a rocky Eyanson for a bit.
