The wedding is on April 30th, a Thursday.

Currently, 5am wst, drive from Lax to Temecula 1hr 34. San Diego drive is 58 minutes.

Nonstop from MSY on Breeze. San Diego's United flight has one stop in Pheonix with a 45 minute layover. Prices are the same when you count the free carryon through United.

Both flights arrive to CA late, between 10 and 11pm. The Breeze flight leaves at midnight back to MSY and doesn't get there till 5:45 cst but its nonstop. The United flight from San Diego lands at midnight in MSY with the same stop in Phoenix.

All things considered, what would you choose? I've never driven in southern California traffic and never flown to San Diego and somehow never through LAX either.

ETA: For $80 more, I could fly into Ontairo with some better arrival and departure times and less than an hour drive also.

Southwest flies into both nonstop. Delta to LAX from MSY.

I forgot I wasn't searching on Google flights and missed all the Southwest fares. It looks like Southwest is the way to go. Fares and times are both the best. Thanks!

San Diego

My GFs mom lives in the Temecula area and that's what we always do. Anything to avoid the LA traffic and you're on the expressway in about ten minutes from the airport. Or if you're going to hang in SD for a day or two the airport is proximate to downtown.

And LA just sucks in general.

ETA: Love the wineries in Temecula. I've probably been to 15 or 20 so far.

Avoid LAX at all costs unless absolutely necessary

San Diego or Ontario. LAX doesn’t make sense in this situation.

San Diego all day long

The airport is very efficient, it’s much smaller than LAX, and is right next to the freeway which has very little traffic

Even if you're planning to just head straight out of town you can still stop in Little Italy for a great meal before you get to the expressway.

This. Then San Diego and then ask if attendance by Zoom is an option.

San Diego. No need to subject yourself to the awful traffic driving through LA from LAX.

San Diego is probably your best bet. We often use John Wayne Airport in Irvine for work; that is another option. Do not use LAX.

This (assuming it's also non-stop)

IMO, non-stop should supersede all other considerations. Who cares if the LAX drive is 30 minutes farther?

That was at 5am this morning. The other responses seem to think the clusterfrick of LAX and LA traffic arent worth it.

But you said it arrives to LAX late, right? It's about 90 miles - so that's going to be 1.5 hours, no matter what. Traffic shouldn't add too much more at that time.

How much longer is the itinerary with connections? So much more can go wrong in that scenario, IMO.

Ah. Good point.

Short layover on the way there (45min. to 1hr), longer on the return (1hr 45)

And you are renting a car and driving yourself or just taking a cab/uber?

For me, I would much rather be on the ground at least quasi-local with the least amount of volatility. It doesn't take much to go wrong with connecting flights to mar your entire experience.

I don't want to gloss over how crappy LA traffic can be, but I'm still a lean almost always to nonstop.
