Irsay's memorabilia sold for 93 million at auction

World records were set (most expensive guitar, most expensive horse racing thing a saddle worn by Secretariat, and on and on) exceeding the Christie's pre auction estimate of forty million.
If you are like me and thought he was throwing money around recently buying things for which there was limited interest. Well. If the folks interesting in acquiring such stuff are billionaires, so be it. It not a game any of us are playing.

Irsay bought Gilmore’s black Stratocaster in 2019 for $4M. He bought Jerry Garcia’s Tiger guitar in 2002 for $960,000. $5M investment on 2 guitars sold for $25M. Irsay had 44 lots listed at Christie’s and I’m guessing his investment on those lots was around $22M ~ $27M.
For someone who was worth $5 billion prior to his death, Irsay’s memorabilia purchases were basically FU money.

His kids suck. They should’ve just put all this in a museum instead of selling it to the wealthy. Should’ve been preserved, in a museum named after Irsay.
I respect irsay more seeing that he just collected cultural history.

I don’t think they want anything to do with their father’s legacy.

*who was probably not the best father of his daughters
Naw, cash out, split the proceeds fairly and be done with that part of his mediocre legacy.
The siblings still have to deal with each other personally and with the family business aspects (the Colts and whatever else he had).
Them getting rid of all this shite is, in the words of Forrest, “one less thing”.

That family has a truly interesting history of being total pieces of shite

They sure didn’t mind taking the colts.

Very few people would give enough of a shite about Jim Irsay to pay an admission fee to go see his collection of random memorabilia to make it a financially viable museum operation.
The only plausible way that stuff was ever going to be displayed to the public in a museum-like setting is if his kids donated it to existing sports museums or halls of fame.

The way that they're running the Colts is a complete 180 from their old man.

Substance abuse does not age well. I’m sure they resented him at the very least

The Colts were doing well last season until Jones got hurt.

I’ve got some bad news. If you have to do that much acid to feel something from the music, then it sucks.

They wanted the financial output of his legacy without all the blood and pain that it cost him.

Imagine being so retarded you think you need acid to enjoy one of the greatest living guitarists playing Jerry Garcias guitar.
