I don't usually have an opportunity to catch lunch in Baton Rouge during the week (since I'm at work), but I'm off today and was thinking about grabbing a bite. Any recommendations?

Pretty much anything will do... not too expensive though. I've eaten most places, so it'd have to be someplace a little out of the ordinary, unless there's a well-known restaurant that you'd highly recommend...

Have you been to Yvette Marie's? It's a little cafe with quite good lunchtime fare located at the corner of Park/19th and Government. Great place for lunch.

Anthony's... THAT's a place I've been wanting to try. Thanks for the advice. I've been to Dempsey's and I like it. I'll have to try Opie's some other time... do they have anything else besides good fish? I'm not much of a fish-eater, unless I go to Spahr's or Middendorfs.

Get a sandwhich.

The lunches are good, but nothing special.

I'm a big fan of the Marie or the roast beef.
They make a simple roast beef po-boy (no gravy)
I can't figure out what they do to make it so good.

Also while there pick up some Permission Reggio for the house.. Best I ever tasted.

What area do you work in? That would help.

I went to Anthony's and got their special of the day sandwich (I think it's called the Little Italian), since they were Buy 1, get the other 1/2 off. The sandwich was great. I also bought some of the blue cheese stuffed olives, which were awesome. I didn't get the Italian sausage or the Parmesan Reggiano, but I will next time. The people there were super-friendly, and my wife knew one of the owners, from when he used to work at Gino's. I don't see how I never ate there before... that's my kind of place.

amazing how many locals have never been to Anthony's considering its been there for like 30 years. As said here before, it truly is a hidden gem.

as you saw, the only problem is, if we keep telling everyone about this place we will never get in.....

FRANK'S for your basic but good plate lunch...skip the rice or mashed potatoes, and get the potato salad instead. If nothing on the lunch menu appeals meat wise, order fried pork chops...not on the menu but you order 'em, they'll cook 'em for ya.

South of Philly for as close as you'll come to a real Philly Cheesteak.

Good entree salads at the Coffee Bean on Coursey.

The Chicken Club at Brewbachers is good...comes with the fries, so they're not extra.

The Peace Maker at Acme Oyster House, with a cup of C&S gumbo and potato salad on the side.

Dearman's is one of the good burger places with out having to go to one end of town or the other.

Damn dude, no offense, but I really don't like any of the places you mentioned. They're all pretty average. I haven't been to South of Philly, but you made a bold statement, considering I'm from PA.

The Italian sasuage is good, they make it in house..
The spagatti w/ sasauge is good, the sauce is good, nothing special, but the Sasauge makes the differance.

The meatball po-boy is great, My sons fav.

Try the roast beef sometime. For something so simple I dont know what makes it so good.
Romaine lettuce can;t make that big a diferance.
I am starting to think maybe the tomatos are marinated or something.

No offense taken Partner.

Regarding South of Philly...remember, I DID say "as close as you'll come." I'm sure Pat's or Geno's or...what's that other place...Tony Luke's...something like that, are all much better. I am talking about what you can get here in Baton Rouge in the way of a cheesesteak. The fellow that owns the place is making an effort to be as authentic as possible...flying in the same bread they use up there and so on.

Sorry the other places don't work for ya...I tried...
