Has anyone had any work done recently?

What is a reasonable price for a whole new 3 ton system installed?
What about just an evaporator replacement?

I’ve gotten a quote for $12,000 for a new system or $7,000 for just an evaporator.

I just had a 3-ton Carrier Infinity variable speed system installed:
26VNA0
2-stage furnace with variable speed blower.
Coil
Increased size of return duct and grille.
~$15,090

I got 16 quotes from 6 companies:
Single speed (3): $10,960-$11,290
Two stage (7): $12,600-$20,380
Variable (6): $15,090-$20,220

How old is the unit? Is it R410 or R-22 refrigerant? Avg life of a HVAC system in the Deep South is 13 - 15 years.

$7K for a evap coil replacement sounds crazy. Most common cost quoted by others on this board for that job that had it done in the past 2 years is between $2.5 and $3.5 K.

The $12K for a new system is not unreasonable. Sounds like they want to sell you a new system.

Get quotes OP, they are free.

I just replaced a 4 ton system for $8300. I had quotes from $7900 for a Daiken to $18,000 for a fancy high seer system. There were 2 quotes under $9000.

And they're all still booked out to forever. The prices are still going to go up.

As people become more and more dependent on contractors for every little thing, the prices will continue going up and the amount of crappy contractors out there will continue going up as well.
