When should we expect to hear news of McMahon’s future?

The season is basically over, highly doubt we are invited to any postseason tournament with a 15-17 (3-15) record

I expect there will be a statement on McMahon’s future (one way or the other) soon - when are we thinking? Friday news dump today? Wait until we are officially passed over for postseason ball at the conclusion of the weekend?

If there’s going to be a change probably not for a week or two especially if certain candidates are pearticipating in the ncaa tournament. If he’s coming back you won’t hear a peep until portal recruitment starts.

Also remember the final four is where a lot of ADs and coaches like to network.

Why would they announce the future of a coach who is under contract for a few more years?

Yeah, I’m sure the athletic department is scrambling to schedule the “breaking news: coach with multiple years left on his contract will continue to be employed” press conference.

Maybe they’ll do the full rollout too - dramatic Friday news dump, urgent emails to boosters, banner across the website:

“After careful evaluation, LSU has decided to honor the legally binding contract we already signed.”

Riveting stuff.

Or and hear me out, they might just do what schools normally do with coaches under contract and say absolutely nothing until there’s an actual decision to make. Shocking concept, I know.

Y’all can act like I’m crazy for asking the question, but many schools have made statements saying they’re keeping their current coach and committing more money to the roster instead of firing him.

I don’t remember if they leaked it or made a public statement last year, but LSU sent out that same message at the end of the 2025 season.

That’s what people were saying about Kelly too.

My hope is that they already have been speaking to candidates, have short list, etc. And they are simply waiting closer to when those coaches are closer to finishing their seasons. Fire then quickly hire.

There shouldnt be a need for some long drawn out process since the decision to fire him should have been made long ago. When they announce it should depend on when the prospective coach is ready to go.

The schools entering the marketplace (Georgia Tech, Arizona St, Syracuse, Providence, K-State, etc, etc,) announced quickly after their seasons ended. And to be fair, that's really more for the benefit of the fired coaches. No need to drag things out. Inform the fired coach of your decision so he and his staff can start lining up future plans for he and his family's future. Plus, a coach wants to know he will still be employed for next season before talking to potential recruits right now.

I suspect you have not heard anything because Wade is the primary target (some may say the only target). That makes timing tricky because NC State is going to the NCAA Tournament and Wade's buyout doesn't decrease until after 4/1. IMO, the longer you hear nothing, the more likely there is some sort of agreement with Wade. LSU likely doesn't want to hire him until after 4/1 and Wade doesn't want a distraction for his current school. I think Wade's first statement to the press yesterday when asked about the LSU job was not unintentional. He said "Is that job open? No." Perhaps that means LSU is not "opening" the job until the timing is right for the guy they intend to hire.

However, IF there is no behind-the-scenes commitment from Wade, then LSU will have to announce things pretty quickly between today and next Tuesday or Wednesday if they are making a change. The coaching carousel is going to move very quickly after that first weekend of the NCAA Tournament. So if LSU wants a coach from a NCAAT team, they need to be on the ride. Go back to 2022. LSU announced Wade had been fired on the Saturday before selection Sunday. Murray St. played on Thursday (won). LSU played on Friday (lost). Murray then lost on Saturday. McMahon was announced as the new hire on Monday.

I don’t think we’re going to have our guy ready to go the minute a firing is announced. The job will officially come open probably early next week (after selection Sunday) and then we’ll have a guy a few weeks later.

Just my guess.

You don’t announce a hiring the day you fire someone. Not exactly how that works. If indeed MM is fired it’ll happen next week.

The longer the administration remain quiet about MMs status the more I think they are trying to get WW.If they wanted to keep MM they would already have said it.The announcement will come either way once WW gives an answer.MM will be LSUs coach next season if WW turns them down.Book it !!

LSU doesn’t care about the men’s basketball program and they hate their own fans.

I believe the money will only be there for the buyout if WW takes the job.Otherwise they will ride it out with MM until it costs a lot less ,just my opinion.
