CBS has picked up the hospice fraud in L.A.

It’s a massive exposé. In short they reviewed the records of every single hospice in L.A. County. The state is only paying lip service to cleaning it up. Shocking, right? The article is huge. Videos, documents… all sorts of stuff. Too much to post here in its entirety.
Here’s the entryway to one of the hospices
It’s just goes on and on. Here’s the link.

Three years ago, California’s state auditor sounded the alarm that Los Angeles County had seen a 1,500% increase in hospice companies since 2010 – more than six times the national average relative to its elderly population.

The CBS News analysis reveals that over 700 of the roughly 1,800 hospices in LA County, trigger multiple red flags for fraud as defined by the state.
quote:
Nationwide, the average amount a hospice bills Medicare per patient is $13,200. CBS News found the typical hospice in LA County billed Medicare roughly $29,000 per patient – more than double the national average. The highest rate billed by a single hospice in the county was $74,000 per patient.
Here’s the entryway to one of the hospices
quote:
Using state licensing records, CBS News found 75 people simultaneously employed at five or more hospice companies in LA County. In the most extreme case, a single medical director has been listed as working simultaneously at 45 different hospices.
quote:
None of the hospices flagged in the CBS News analysis turned up in California's enforcement actions database. Since 2022, when the state published its audit report, California's Department of Public Health has issued enforcement actions against seven hospice facilities statewide — despite the state auditor warning that fraud was rampant.
It’s just goes on and on. Here’s the link.

i bet what you WON'T find in that pile of mail are the checks the government sent.

For those who bitch and complain about how the federal government should be providing healthcare, this is what government-provided healthcare looks like.

If CBS is on it, then viewership will respond. Let's see how other MSM responses compare.
Maybe the MSM is about to go to war trying to out truth each other.

I started looking into hospice/Medicare fraud a while back and found this article from 2022.

It has been four years since that audit was submitted and changes recommended, yet they have the same rampant fraud issues. It is almost like it is......by design.

quote:
LOS ANGELES (CN) — The California state auditor reported Tuesday that bogus hospice agencies in Los Angeles are likely defrauding Medicare and Medi-Cal on a massive scale, noting a 1,600% increase of such agencies in LA County since 2010.
The rapid, disproportionate growth in the number of hospice agencies in LA County, the excessive geographic clustering of these agencies, the long durations of the services they provide, and the high rates of patients discharged alive are all indicators that these are sham operations, the auditor found.
“We are concerned that numerous unscrupulous individuals are likely creating hospice agencies and applying for licenses to fraudulently bill Medicare and Medi-Cal either for services that they are providing to patients who are ineligible for hospice care or for services that they are not providing at all,” Acting California State Auditor Michael Tilden wrote.
The report pointed to the California Department of Public Health’s “lax licensing process” for allowing the proliferation of bogus hospice agencies, even to the extent that the department didn’t deny applications for a license in cases where its own staff had raised red flags.
quote:
In fact, there appear to be individuals who seek licensure of hospice agencies with the sole intention of selling them. We found online listings selling ‘brand new, never billed’ hospice agencies for hundreds of thousands of dollars and promising high cash flow and profits within a few months.”
quote:
In LA County, the number of hospice agencies ballooned to 1,841 last year, from just 109 in 2010, according to the auditor’s report. As a result, the county has 45 times as many hospice agencies as the state of New York and 59 times as many as Florida per their respective aged populations.
Moreover, the LA County hospice agencies are suspiciously clustered together in parts of the county. In one case, the auditor found 210 active hospice agencies located within 1 mile of each other in the Van Nuys
quote:
One office building in the neighborhood was listed as the address of more than 150 licensed hospice and home-health agencies, according to the report, which appeared to exceed the building’s physical capacity.
In many cases, the hospice agencies weren’t listed on building directories, and in some cases the agencies name was only on a paper sign taped to a door, or the purported door of an agency had no sign at all, according to the report.
It has been four years since that audit was submitted and changes recommended, yet they have the same rampant fraud issues. It is almost like it is......by design.

I saw the whole story this morning on CBS. It’s infuriating that we’re being ripped off like this.
There are 500 hospice businesses in a 3 square mile area in LA.

You know why the state is lax????????
The state charges every one of those people on medicare at those facilities a processing fee of 274 dollars per month. The BBBill made this illegal and Newsom put it in his budget anyway 13.5 billion.
So they are stealing and the state is taxing their theft and stealing on top of their theft. And everyone is quiet cause the only one getting ripped off is the US taxpayer.

CBS has really turned a corner and arguably the most unbiased mainstream media right now.
ABC/NBC/CNN still have TDS.

CBS may be the only one of the MSM aircraft carriers to pull a successful 180 and eventually head back toward regaining the public trust.

What people need to understand is in these Democrat controlled states, the fraud is a feature of the system instead of a bug.

Their evening news host put out a statement the week before he started the job that they were changing their focus to stories that had been overlooked previously. Which was him admitting that there was bias. The CBS of Dan Rather and Cronkite is slowly changing and it’s refreshing to see.

My father is on hospice and I am the one that arranged it. It makes me furious to read this, knowing all of the documentation I had to provide and hoops I had to jump through, for an extremely minimal amount of care. (They come 5 days a week for about 30 minutes to check on him. We private pay everything else.)

When government is the provider, who is the regulator? Regulating yourself is a conflict of interest. Look what happened in VA hospitals.
