It’s fun to see us get involved in early free agency again. But, I’m trying to temper expectations. It’s easy to think we just signed 4 all-pros, but these guys were available for a reason and have weaknesses.

Edwards- best signing and biggest need. Buffalo let him go due to salary cap limitations likely. Downside with Edwards is that his run blocking isn’t on the same level as his pass protection.

Etinenne- solid back. Not very good in pass protection. May need a better blocker in on some 3rd down packages bc of limitations in blocking.

Fant- we are his 4th team and is 28 years old. Usually doesn’t happen with above average players. His blocking is inconsistent and he’s not dynamic in the passing game.

Punter- idk if this guy is good but he has to be better than what we have had the last few years. I take the fact that we had to spend to get a punter to be an indictment on the FO failures. Punter should be a position you pick up quality college free agents or use a late pick and let them grow into a quality player/contract (ie Morstead). We’ve just done an awful job at picking up the right young guys.

Not trying to be negative. We are better. Just trying to be grounded.

What is the fun in being realistic in March? We will cruise to a Super Bowl in my opinion

For what it's worth, I have several Bengal fan friends and they all think we overpaid for a mediocre TE that is often injured.

Umm it’s said to be a 2 year $8.75 million deal. 4 million is an overpay?

He’s played in 15 or more games every year of his career except once, where he played in 14.

I think the staff likes Johnson and Johnso played much better down the stretch once Shough started. That being said he is inconsistent and oft injured.

I think Fant gives us some options in duel TE formations, is an upgrade as a backup and can hopefully fill in as a starter for a few games if Johnson goes out.

The position still probably needs an upgrade overall, but this is a low risk move that makes the group better as a whole.

I’d still like to see if we can pick up a late rounder like Koziol, Klein or Wright to see if they could develop into a consistent starter.

He’s an elite pass blocker and a very good run blocker. You had to break your back spinning that as “downside” lol

The only notable FA on the offensive side that Moore signed last year was Brandin Cooks, who was meant to be paired with Carr. Edwards, Eitienne and Fant represent guys that were specifically picked out to fit Moore's system. They also happen to be positions that were abysmal last season. Maybe OP needs to shut the frick up.

You seem more downer than upper tbh.
The Saints did something yesterday I have never seen or at least cannot remember. They competed and won on the first day of FAs. To do this and get your guys you have to pay more on day one than on day 20. I don’t feel anything but good…
Picked up the best Guard
Picked up #2 RB
Picked up perhaps the best Punter
Picked up 4th round draft pic

Being as critical as I can I find myself still in agreement with every expert and talking head out there “Saints had a great day and freed up their draft possibilities”.

Does anyone believe we signed 4 All Pros?

It’s not even up for debate that we upgraded 4 positions of great need

All reports have talked about how he got a lot better at this last season.

Not asking him to be the top TE on the team, he's simply a depth signing

Punter- idk if this guy is good

Ranked #6 in PFF, and considered top 5/10 at his position. Team probably could have gone cheaper for someone else. But as you pointed out, we've been awful since Morestead. Therefore, you have to go with the proven commodity.

I skipped Edwards because that was already addressed by several others

There is reason to be encouraged moving forward.IF TS continues to improve the Saints struck black and gold with their 2nd round QB.That gives us a lot of money moving to the future to upgrade needed positions,OL,EDGE,LB,WR.They need to hit on this draft like last years and the future will be very bright.
