Stock futures were plunging to start the week's trading as U.S. oil prices topped $100 a barrel amid the U.S.-Iran conflict, raising fears higher energy prices could dramatically slow the U.S. economy. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is coming off its biggest weekly slide in nearly a year.

Futures tied to the Dow fell 966 points, or 2%. S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures each tumbled 1.6%.

West Texas Intermediate crude jumped 18% to above $108 a barrel, its first time above the $100 level since July 2022, when investors were reacting to the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. International benchmark Brent crude added 16% to above $107 a barrel. U.S. oil prices began the year below $60 a barrel.

Oil futures jumped on Sunday night after major Middle East producers slashed their output due to the continued closure of the key Strait of Hormuz passageway. Kuwait announced cuts but did not say by how much, while Iraq has reportedly seen its production fall 70%.

The $100 oil level was seen by many on Wall Street as a breaking point for the economy unless the war is resolved quickly and prices retreat.

Ah yes, the assets that you need in the next 90 days. Please. Mine averages 20% YoY, and it will come back, just like after COVID, the ridiculous Biden inflation, etc.

Im more than happy paying more at the pump if it leads to the freedom of the Iranian people!

I’m sure our liberal brethren who spewed this bullshite 2-3 years ago in reference to the Ukraine war will also agree in this instance.

“I’ll gladly pay more at the pump if it means sticking it to Putin!!”
Y’all remember that shite?

Meh, still lower than what it was under Biden. Funny how during Biden's presidency we were told that the president had nothing to do with gas prices, yet the Left is so quick to point the finger at Trump now. That's fine, just as long as you give him credit when the prices go back down.

Remember how people put the Biden “I did that” sticker at the pump? Do we have a trump version?

I wonder if Kamala was in charge caused this conflict with Iran, would the people in the right who are supporting it right now still support it. All I know is that whenever we have talks of helping Americans to live better, government is like “we don’t have the money”. But when it’s about participating in a foreign war, it’s “we can fight forever”.

In six months this will look like a gift. It’s just like the tariff overreaction last April.
