Your Saints 1st round draft pick odds - pre FA

Obviously before free agency it's hard to predict anything, but what's your gut telling you the Saints will do, taking into account who is likely to be available at pick 8. I'm gonna say
40% Love
30% Downs
20% Bain
10% other (Tate, Delane, Lemon, Tyson)
I just don't believe Reese, Styles, or Bailey will be available at #8. I'd take any of those if they slide. One or all of my 3 may be gone as well, but I think 2 of the 3 are likely there.
I don't think they pass on most analysts #1 player in Love if he's there, positional value be damned. But there's at least a 50% chance he's gone before we pick.
Downs seems like a safe pick and is more likely to be available, could really fill a need assuming Alontae leaves as expected.
I have no idea how Staley feels about Bain's arm length. I know DA would never have drafted him, but he was arguably the best defensive player in college football last year, T. Rex or no. Pass rushers are so valuable, if Staley loves him he could get picked over Downs.
I don't see the Saints drafting a WR at 8, the value at that position seems better in the 2nd round. Mansoor Delane could be a wildcard.

Im thinking a pass rusher. The Saints select linemen a lot with their top picks over the years.
Downs could be in the mix also. I would agree with you. I think Taylor's probably going to leave.
honestly though I wouldn't mind if they did pick a receiver or a running back. there are so many different directions they could go.
but the line of scrimmage is the Saints bread and butter as far as team building. it'll be interesting to see if they continue that way this year.

25%- Bailey
25%- Bain
20% Love
20%- Downs
10%- Delane
It’s really going to depend on what Arizona and Tennessee do. Arizona could go OL or Edge, then Tennessee mostly projected to go Edge, but have been linked to Love lately.
I think the Saints sign a RB and OG early in FA, then lean defense at #8, since Offense got the first two picks in last year’s Draft.

I pretty much agree with you. If love isn’t there, I think they’d hope at least one of Styles, Downs, or Bain would be there.

It could go:
1. Mendoza
2. Reese
3. Mauigoa
4. Love
5. Bailey
6. Fano
7. Downs
8. Styles
If Ten takes Love do the NYG pass on Bailey for Styles? Ari/ Cle desperately need OL help so we hope this happens. Still leaves Commanders.
Plan A: Bailey/ Styles (whoever is left)
Plan B: Choose between (Downs/ Bain)
Plan C: Downs/ Bain (whoever is left)

I’m calling it. Again. If a edge or top lber doesn’t fall to us we trade down. I’ll be right one decade.

Pass on Bain.
Tate, Downs, Freeling/Mauigoa, Delane if styles and love are gone

Love, Reese, Styles, Bailey. I would be happy with any of these

IIRC Moore said he believes in building from the lines out so that would make the most sense.

From your list? Unless every mock is wrong I don't think there is any scenario where Reese or Bailey make it to 8, and I'm 90% sure Styles will be gone as well.

Love won't be there most likely.

I think Stykes, Reese, Bailey and Love will be gone.
I think our choice will come down to Bain or Tate and I’ll be happy with either given the circumstances.

Downs is good, his positional value is low. Even if he’s a nickel corner

I want Love but I always thought defense would be the issue this off season. You had to know that eventually Coach would want to bring his own players in and put his stamp on the organization. Moore's success is built at the line on both sides of the ball
50% Bain or other defensive lineman
25% Love
25% trade down for more picks and snag best available defensive lineman

Yeah, Styles is shooting us after the combine.
Anyone else think Bain slides down into the teens because of arm length?
It’s a strange year in that three of the highest rated players - Downs, Love and Styles - play positions that teams don’t like to draft in the top 10.

I’m listening to a political radio show, has nothing to do with sports, but in the middle of a conversation about the war in Iran, the host and his interview subject took a break from politics to talk about how much they both hope their teams draft Love. I’m not a draft guru but it’s been a long time since I heard about a non-QB draft prospect bleeding into so many non-sports conversations across the culture the way Love is.
