I was legit hopeful today would be a decent reading. Earlier this week we got ISM surveys showing solid expansion. Jobless claims also hovered near record lows. Other readings such as labor productivity, etc were decent to good.

And today I wake up to a -92k print?

I can’t remember the last time employment data was this out of sync with other indicators.

AI is taking everybody’s jobs. Universal basic income incoming.

1) Lots of illegals leaving their jobs.

2) Teachers strike across California

3) 3 sequential massive blizzards across the mid-west, upper East coast and New England.

4) Holiday temp hiring becomes layoffs in January & February

5) AI employment reductions.

They push information out fast on estimations and feelings, then when actuals arrive they are always off.

Also, market manipulation.

It was telling that some of the loss leaders for jobs were hospitality, warehouses, construction, IT, etc.

Tons of corporate layoffs due to mostly outsourcing and some AI. Nothing new, it’s been like this for a couple years now. Terrible job market for white collar workers.

I happen to know quite a few H1B fraudsters working in IT.

Illegals who can’t work on the books who aren’t eligible for unemployment benefits are skewing the job numbers?

Are there other indicators of employment levels other than the number of people working and not working?

I meant that the labor market is consistent with an economy shrinking around 1%

Those aren’t Illegal Immigrants from places like Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Somalia, Ethiopia, etc where the average iq is around 80ish.

No but they may be people that were squeezed out over the last cycle. We know H1Bs have been under scrutiny.

Sounds catchy but not accurate. Some of this is in the future, but is currently insignificant.

AI is starting to make an impact. For many it will be better than outsourcing.

Started in the CGI world at the dawn of its history. Now the young who are studying it or in it fear for their future. They fear that they will be like pit musicians. However, they could become sound engineers. Always opportunities as well as those devastated.

The hiring process is so broken

God knows how many people have been out of work for a year + at this point

Getting past the workday ATS shite programs is hard enough. If you’re a straight white male, forget about going any further in the process
