Expectations about contracts going forward need to be readjusted. Money is going to get nuts once the new tv deals kick in

Why I want an edge pass rusher or receiver at 8.

Pass rushers are going for 40, good receivers are going for 30-35. Our pick will be around 8 a year. Good running backs are going for maybe 12-15.

Huge savings on that rookie deal at those two positions.

This is why "we" keep harping on the whole positional value thing with the draft. It's only going to get more important in the coming years.

Walker MIGHT fetch $15-18 mil per year as the top FA HB, while you are looking at the 3rd tier of pass rushers and 2nd tier of receivers making $20-25 mil per year.

Love and some of those other guys have to be truly extraordinary/so far ahead of the other players when we pick to be worth it.

$40.1M for 1 year and it’s the 4th highest. This league is just printing money

Hunter getting $40M is crazy! This definitely puts more of an emphasis on positional value (as others have mentioned in this thread). As much as I like Love at 8……the positional value is definitely a factor.

I just believe that this roster is in such desperate need of playmakers that if you see a possible future all pro (at a pos of need), you MAY have to forego the positional value argument.

All of this is a non factor of course if they go into FA and decide to spend on a RB

It shows how good of a move the Chase Young extension was last year. 3 years for $51 mill is a steal. The FO has been on a nice little hot streak lately with the Young extension, the Lattimore trade, the Fortner trade, Shaheed trade, the Shough pick(along with the entire draft), etc….

Hunter 153 career games - 114.5 sacks

JJ Watt 151 career game - 114.5 sacks

Hunter will be top 10 all time in sacks if he stays healthy

It went better than the Tyler Shough pick at least.

The next year isn't necessarily way to compare. Hunter's contract is right between where TJ Watt and Myles Garrett signed for last year in terms of average per year.

The reason Chase Young's contract was lower was due to his lack of similar production and injury concerns.

Hunter - 78 games through age 26 season - 54.5 sacks - 10.9 sack/season
Young - 72 games through age 26 season - 32 sacks - 5.3 sacks/season

There’s a reason Young was “cheap”

He needs to prove it and sustain his play for it to be a value

4.5 sacks over 3 years. Just like Shemar Stewart, except Hunter got drafted in the 3rd round instead of #17 overall.

But hey, it's not where you start. Hunter came in and apparently wrote down notebooks full of info and advice from Andre Patterson and the other DEs for the Vikings. Started just 1 game in his first 30 games but compiled 18.5 sacks.

Jacked-up Danielle has done really well in life for a guy with a girls’ name.

Still a great player, though.
